“If there’s ever an occasion in Corvallis to bust out the fancy hoodie, or Google, “how long after expiration can I still use mascara,” it’s for a meal at Castor. Trying to usurp Burgerville as the best date night spot in town is a tall order, but what Castor lacks in having kegs of ketchup at the ready, it makes up for in a host of other ways. Being one of the only ‘nice’ restaurants in town open on Mondays is a great start, as having to explain to my stomach that it can’t have a filet on certain days hasn’t gone over well in the past; it wants what it wants when it wants it.

Arriving on time for a 6:30 reservation, my date and I were given the unfortunate news that our table was not ready due to the earlier reservation’s guests not GTFOing in a timely manner. We were ushered to a bench on the other side of the restaurant and given water and a drink menu while we waited, which was fine, as it allowed for a thorough review of all the restaurant’s artwork and holiday decorations. Our 15-minutes of patience was rewarded with the best table in the joint, so that helped to right the ship after the initial delay.

My date started off with an Old Fashioned, and I with their NA Moscow Mule. When I asked if she liked it, I was told, “Yes I def did” (we’re still on speaking terms 😎), which is the sentiment I’d echo for my drink. It sure beat the water I usually have with dinner.

The Bread & Butter and Dinner Salad were solid and flavorful, but primarily used to prevent me from getting cranky while waiting for the main course, the Filet Mignon. French for “cute strip,” the filet was an easy choice for both of us because we only eat cute food. Placed on a bed of mashed potatoes, just like Jesus in his manger, the steak was very flavorful and cooked perfectly to my preference - medium (don’t @ me). My steak was very tender and not chewy in the slightest. The mashed potatoes were quite yummy in my tummy, too, and the carrots did a solid job at being a palette cleanser between bites of the good stuff.

Despite opting to end the meal after the filet and not getting a dessert, it was still a bit disheartening to hear that they didn’t have two of the dessert options listed on the menu. The Will in the parallel universe that was dying to get cookies must have been heartbroken to learn that, but I was ok with it.

Castor is probably a 4.5* establishment, but having to wait 15 minutes after our reservation time is causing me to round down for this visit. At least that’s the only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth. The staff was professional and did a good job; and the timing of the meal once seated flowed very well.”

“Our party tried a variety of dishes, I think about seven different items. All of them were excellent. We will definitely come back to try some of the others. The server was pleasant and attentive. The menu is compact but there is something for everyone. We didn't try the desserts but they looked really good based on the menu descriptions. I have only one negative comment; It was very noisy inside. I'm not sure if that was due to acoustics of the room or unduly noisy patrons but it was difficult for our party to have a conversation.”

Great menu selection. Wish they had lattes but that’s ok. Their donuts are a must try We had the maple one. Came here for brunch and the food was delicious. Good flavors and not greasy. Wish the potato hash wasn’t as crispy.”

“I’ve driven by this place for years and never realized it was here. Stopped in after a long day of work, absolutely starving. The staff were all super friendly—Casey, in particular, was incredibly kind to us, especially my daughter. The food was fantastic. The fish and chips really hit the spot, and both the Brussels sprouts and wings were top-notch. The full bar looked great, too. I’ll definitely have to come back during some “adult time” to check it out properly. It’s always tough to find a well-made Old Fashioned—guess we’ll see!”

“Last night was our first experience and it was just me and my 6 year old son. We didn’t have a reservation and wanted to do the teppanyaki, so I told him before we went in that we might have to wait a little bit dependent on how busy it was and if they needed to fill the rest of our table (the teppanyaki tables seat 8, so I figured they would wait until more people came). They sat us right away and we received service right away. They are quick to check on how everything is and clear your dishes from all the pre-dinner foods. To our surprise, Chef Charlie came out and did our teppanyaki dinner for just the two of us. He was funny, patient (when my son accidentally threw one of the props further than expected), and made sure we would like all the flavors he was using while cooking. We had an absolute blast. My son told me it was the best night of his life. Even a server who was not serving our table came over to ask my son how he liked the show. Very sweet establishment, great service, yummy food and awesome people. We will definitely be back.”

“My wife and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately in the very interesting bar area. I had the Extend-o-burger and my wife had the fish and chips. The burger was the best one I've had so far this year. The fries were cooked to perfection, the fish had a crisp crust and a lovely dusting of dill. I had the Bohemian Pilsner, it was fantastic. My wife had the 2 Towns Cider Cosmic Crisp, nice. Overall, I want to come back as soon as possible.”

“Frosty Fox Gainesville: My husband and I recently tried this place and the puffles are absolutely amazing. It’s our new favorite dessert. We drove all the way back to town from Archer to get it again tonight. Strawberry puffle with extra strawberries, mini stroop waffles and vanilla gelato. 20/10 would recommend. Also, as someone who is lactose sensitive, gelato is way easier on my stomach than ice cream!”

“Lovely selection, my only gripe is that they consistently omit toasting my bagels. They’ll be warm from the oven so the workers assume, even if you specifically ask for it to be toasted, that toasting isn’t necessary. But I think it’s important to note that warm and soft from baking is not the same as crisp and crunchy from the toaster! Make sure if you want your bagel toasted that you watch them actually put it through the toaster🙈”

“The food has the authentic taste I had been looking for. The facility is very bare bones. I have only ordered takeout; the customer service is just okay, depending on who is at the register. Food was ready on time when I called ahead. It seems to be a family-owned facility and I love that for them.

Their mapo tofu with no alterations is excellent, authentic flavor, good balance of spicy/numbing, proper rich, red hue, not too salty. I asked them to make it extra spicy and add extra sichuan peppercorns to balance, they simply dumped the extra pepper flakes and peppercorns on top, leaving the overall balance of the dish leaning bitter and under-seasoned.

The vegetable noodle soup is simply some greens, fried tofu cubes, and broth with noodles, not an abundunt variety of vegetables. The noodles were served in the same container as the soup for takeout, so expect them to become oversaturated if kept overnight.

The quicksand buns are delightful, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce was also pretty good. The mini pot is good as well.”

“Everything was great, service, food etc... until today when I get notification of Elmer's charging my account multiple times for the same meal. (paid with debit) The food was good but not hundreds of dollars good. not a happy customer. Update: Went in when they opened, told there was nobody that could do anything except maybe the manager when he is in, no answer as to when he would be in, just call and check if he is there then drop what I am doing to go there. For the record this is the 3rd time this exact thing has happened to me at the Corvallis location, makes me wonder how many people don't catch double charges from them........... Update: The manager finally talked with me and said he would refund the extra charges. How ever I get a new notice of duplicate charges. He did refund me one of the charges AFTER he charged my account AGAIN.”

My usual go-to is basil fried rice (as spicy as they can make it - I LOVE that they have a spice level built into their menu when ordering online) and it did not disappoint. “Love it. We took a break from take n bake for a while, but we've been going here weekly. Order on the website and you can pick up from the rack by the door. Usually our order is ready before the time given online.We recently tried the cheesy bread, and it's a winner. Could easily add to every order.As far as the pizzas go, we've been happy with the cheese or pepperoni, especially because they often have deals running. These are good to stick in the freezer and cook from frozen as well. Just need to add more cooking time. I sometimes pull them out and let them rest for a few minutes and then stick them back on a pizza stone in the oven to crisp up the bottom some more. If you don't rest them, the cheese can burn.All around, good pizza and good value, especially as there are not many pizza options in SW Corvallis/Philomath.The Dairy free create your own is also a really nice choice for our youngster who is intolerant to dairy/lactose.”

She took the time to talk me down, and we ended up crying together. She reached in for a hug and even paid for my order, throwing in an extra cake pop for my daughter. “I was able to book my elopement celebration at Clodfelters with little notice. Hunter and the crew went so far above and beyond to provide a space for our rowdy crowd! And made many accomodations for us to ensure we had a special day! and it was so much more than special. we were meant to have a few hiccups that led us to Clodfelters because it was better than we imagined! I cannot recommend Clodfelters enough for events, or even just drinks and dinner. the vibe is amazing, the staff are incredible, and the food is fantastic!!”

Stumbled onto Pastega shortly after arriving in Corvallis. It’s amazing to grab a bag of coffee beans so fresh they’re still warm. The only thing better than the beans is the friendly and attentive service. Conversations shared with Matt over the years and his recommendations on things Oregon remain highlights to our relocation. Corvallis would have a significant void without Pastega Coffee Roasters.”

There's a sandwich board out front so we knew we were in the right place and another review mentioned that it was in there also. “I enjoyed the breakfast bagel with bacon eggs and cheese. They use fresh bagels from Kinetic bagels which really makes a difference. They also have delicious cookies. The service was quick and the building has a good layout with a nice atmosphere. I definitely recommend checking this place out.”

“Went to the Starbucks downtown Corvallis to pick up customer order it was poorly put together in the back which it leaked all over when I got to customers home. I went to the closer Starbucks to get order due to the other Starbucks posing a rotten disposition when I explained that it had dumped everywhere. They weren’t willing to offer assistance at first. The two ladies who helped me this morning were quick, thorough, professional and empathetic about the circumstances I was experiencing! The 3rd St Starbucks is not good or needs to get better help who addresses situations in an appropriate manner and doesn’t act out or appear irritable with the customer.”

“This place is the best. If you are hungry in the morning, their biscuits are the best in the day did have and they do a great biscuits and gravy if you aren't in the mood for a breakfast sandwich. I highly recommend spending the time to dine in if you get the biscuits and gravy. You don't want a lid on it to take the little bit of crisp away from the biscuits”

Zoe and her team were incredibly kind, bending over backward to support the kids' birthday party we were attending. She even brought in extra decorations and offered to store our ice cream in their walk-in freezer. They were cheerful and enthusiastic about the typical kid mayhem (and had a private room for us, so as not to bother the other guests).

“8/4/2021 Best Chinese food in the valley hands down! We pickup a take-out order 3-4 times per month, sometimes more. HOWEVER, they seem to be slipping a little bit lately. The sweet n sour chicken was rock hard, literally crunchy. My Wife was shocked as it’s always good. Everyplace has an off day, hopefully this was a one time thing. Warning! Apparently they only add soy sauce in the “to-go” bags if you specifically ask for it. Bizarre! Who doesn’t use soy sauce on Chinese food. We love Queens Chopsticks. By far the best we’ve found in Corvallis/Philomath. Highly recommend. A little spendy, but worth every penny…most of time.”

“Had not been to an Applebee's in quite awhile but the one in Corvallis is surprisingly good. Their Happy Hour is great. Good options for drinks and appetizers 1/2 price, which is a great deal. Service was excellent, fast, friendly and efficient. Definitely will be back the next time we are in Corvallis.”
