I've passed by Corvallis Brewing Supply for years on the way to work, examining the cider presses and other cool equipment in front of the building. I have many friends who make home brew and probably shopped there. Problem is, no one mentioned that there was a fantastic selection of world class wine and beer also available for those of us that don't brew... so I never went in. My bad.Folks, this is what is known as a third place. The kind of business that made Corvallis a great place to live and is rapidly disappearing. There are treasures to be found here, along with a tremendous knowledge base that you won't find just anywhere. Truly, I can't say enough good things about the owner, the selection, and his wonderful staff.In the past two months I have had many opportunities to sample a vast array of wine, beer, ciders, etc. which has helped expand my knowledge of the vast array of beverages available. As a person who doesn't drink much, this and the input of both staff and loyal customers has helped me to select a few things to take home.It's a total bummer that this store has only a week left to go. Get your self down there now. See you on Tuesday......

From starting your first fermentation, to a complex brew, to diagnosing troubled batches they will help you figure it out.Unfortunately the store will be closing after nearly 25 years. We will miss the store, but if you catch the owner at a bar, know he helped foster a generation of local brewers.

About two weeks ago I stopped in to get all the ingredients for a 5 gallon brew. I've been brewing for about a year using extract kits from an online supplier that disappointed me one too many times.I didn't have a recipe with me but knew I wanted to make a stout. Not a problem. They hooked me up with all the stuff I needed and offered some good advice after patiently listening to some issues I've had with previous brews.I'm planning on going back tomorrow to pick up another round of ingredients.

Lots of good information from experienced people. Not sure yet, if my wine would be considered a success, but for a first-timer, I'm ok with it.I do have a question though. What causes the cork to pop? It was the last bottle of the batch. And, should I expect more?
