I showed up at my local Dutch Bros just before 3 PM (2:57 to be exact) for their official pin drop, and was told by the barista that I was too early—I’d have to come back after 3 PM. Really? Denied over a matter of less than 3 minutes? I had already tipped and then asked politely about the pin, only to be brushed off without much conversation or customer care.
What really bothered me, though, was what happened next. As I stood there, I overheard the employees behind the counter discussing which pins they were going to set aside for themselves. One male employee even said he was going to use his free large drink to qualify and grab one. So the pins are available, just not for paying customers who show up a couple minutes early?
I’m a regular at this location and normally tip every visit, but after this experience, I won’t be tipping again—not for individuals who prioritize themselves over loyal customers. Dutch Bros is a great brand, but these aren’t the kind of people you want representing it.
