I always stop by this restaurant to chase my childhood memory of getting trapped here for an hour after the doorknob broke (15 years ago). I was greeted when entering with a 'bud', and I'm a 30 year old man. Very unprofessional of the host/waiter.

The food was at my table in under 5 minutes. Understandable for the prepared chowder, which was quite good. The fried fish sandwich however, being on my table so quickly, makes me think a microwave was more involved with the cooking than any chef. The quality of the sandwich reflected that speed of service.

Unless you have a nostalgic reason to come here, you can find much higher quality of food for less cost and friendlier service elsewhere. I'll be skipping the Chowder Housr on my next trip down the coast

Service is not acceptable, no basic manner or professional service, highly believe McDonald is much better. Food is neutral. In addition, there is a 4%merchant fee, first seen it in Oregon, please be advised

Not quick. Don't order the cornbread or clam chowder.

We stopped in for a quick bowl of clam chowder and finally got our chowder after 45 minutes of waiting.

The chowder is the worst chowder you will ever eat. It is a flour paste and very little to no clams or potatoes mixed with the paste. All four of us in the family did not like the chowder.

The calamari is ok. Garlic toast is good. The corn bread is definitely not corn bread. It is a cake like substance but certainly not corn bread.

It is.not well lit inside and older. Slight view of ocean if you grab a window booth.

Definitely walk by this place and don't stop!

Recommend the Sea Hag.

When we walked in we were greeted by the sweet lady behind the bar. It was pretty busy since other restaurants were already closed. She did tell us they were out of chowder but we did not mind. We sat ourselves and did have a wait before our order was taken, but there was only one waitress managing 6 other tables. We had the chicken sandwich, chicken strips, fish and chips and all our food was great. No matter how busy it got our waitress kept her cool and just went with it and still provided great service.

Better options for sure! Nothing good to say, greasy, overcooked cod fish and chips. Super salty Chowder. High priced for the quality, service is so so. Hardly checked on, things forgotten, we were the only table with open menus. Oh and gratuity is automatically added on to the check, which would be cool if the service was worth it.
Pretty dark bar like setting, ok seating. Hard pass.

Since we moved to the coast we've been on a mission to find the best Clam Chowder. Unfortunately we have to cross Chowder Bowl off the list. The chowder was VERY salty, not many clams, and had a weird texture. It was almost like the roux didn't get incorporated properly so there were little lumps of something doughy. The service was fast and friendly and the young person with us really liked the chicken strips. (Was actually more like a chicken filet, pretty big ) Maybe we just got a weird batch of chowder?

We came here for the clam chowder while passing through town. There was 5 of us! Sat down and waited for about 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Almost decided to walked down the way to a different place when the guy said he would be right with us. ( NOT VERY BUSY) 3 other tables had people. We ordered clam chowder bowl for us all. A soda for each of us and he told us they were out of bread that goes with the clam chowder but I could order garlic bread instead to go with it. Once food showed up a guy from the back brought half of the bowls out but not before he stick his thumb in each bowl of the chowder he handed to us as he grabbed them to set them on our table. Dripping chowder on our table from his finger in the bowls. At this point it had been an hour for everything and we just wanted to get out of there. Bill shows up and a little over 100$ later with tip we were leaving not full and not pleased with the extra seasoning left in our chowder from this gentleman's hands. Won't return!

Excellent food! The New England clam chowder was as expected and hot! Delicious! Had the streamer clams as well and they were fantastic, dip the garlic bread in the sauce!!! Just Yum! Oh, and try the taps, local products and tasty!

French dip sandwich was amazing! Chowder bread bowl was good but a little more spice than I expected (garlic maybe). Friendly service 😊

Need a quick bite - this place is serviceable. Nobody in the restaurant when we arrived for lunch. Service was still slow.

The chowder was salty, lacked clam flavor, and had lumps of dry flour in it. We had takeout, so we just ate it, but I will not go there again. The man at the counter was very nice, but the signature chowder is mediocre.

We came in to this place and were immediately greeted and sat down. The server brought the menus and some water and then never came back.. like we sat there for at least 20 minutes waiting for someone to come by to take our order and they never did. Our server kept looking at our table and making eye contact with us but never came back so we walked out. I wish I could say more about the food but from what I’m reading from other reviews, I’m glad we went somewhere else.
