When we ended up leaving The Horn due to lack of service, we came to West Coast Chowder. The service was fantastic. They even got an order of mac and cheese going for my child immediately, before we sat, understanding that she was hungry and we had already been waiting a while to eat before trying this place. Our server, Rocky, took very good care of us, the food tasted good, and the price was good too. The place was clean and had decent views from the front window. Thanks so much!
Kid-friendliness: Service was prompt, which is great when you have a hungry kid, and staff was friendly and kind toward my daughter. Food was affordable and kid-friendly options were available.

Horrible service, dry burgers, chowder was tasteless, and the crab melt was bland. On top of that the new waitress was too entitled for the tip we gave her and felt the need to complain when she thought we couldn’t hear…great service for a week into a new job ??

Small little sit down restaurant. Seated our group of 11 right away. Had chowder bread bowls and a Crab melt. Both were great!
We stopped in for a quick lunch before a whale tour. Kids ordered American standards; parents ordered seafood. The clam chowder was excellent! The fish and chips plate was excellent ! The boys loved their hamburgers (especially the pickles!) and our little girl enjoyed her PB&J with chips! Speaking of chips, they beat out an order of fries by a mile! Perfectly sliced and fried to a crispiness that couldn't be beat! Cody (wait staff) kept our water filled and gave us suggestions on how to beat seasickness out in the bay! Plus, everything was cooked and served with plenty of time to eat without feeling rushed! All in all, a great experience!
You can get a very nice bowl of chowder here for eight dollars. And there are other good options on the menu including clam strips for kids. The mozzarella sticks are also tasty. We also recommend getting some of their garlic bread. The place has a nice ambience. And the prices are reasonable. You can usually find free street parking nearby.
It’s a shame that with a great location that it is not a quality experience. Menus, salt & pepper shakers & vinegar were all dirty & sticky! I regret eating there. No healthy options. A true greasy spoon. Food was average at best. The Chowder Bowl in Newport is a completely separate restaurant with no connection. That is a great restaurant!

First time I went there (fish sandwich, fries) it was great and I looked forward to a repeat. Second time (sea food platter) it was awful. Instead of the great fries, there were these flaccid potato --disks?-- and everything was either soggy or deep fried to the point of incineration.
Went for lunch, the place was not busy. Had the chowder and salad, fish n chips and bacon burger and chips. Chowder was a big disappointment, extremely thick, bland, very few clams. Couldn't eat much of it. Salad was limp and mainly lettuce. Not very good either. Bacon burger was ok and fish n chips ok the chips/fries were different. Round slices, no seasonings. Server not that attentive but would come over when called. Disappointing food.
Stopped in for lunch, had the chowder, burger, and fries. It was pretty slow (off season), the staff were very friendly and the prices were decent. Would definitely go back.
A truly awesome restaurant with a very skilled Chef and great service. My wife and I shared the Captain’s Platter (fried). Everything is Hand Breaded and done perfectly. This Chef knows exactly how long to cook each item to perfection. Even though the food is fried it is not greasy! The breading is light and deliciously seasoned. The Chowder Bowl is a MUST STOP if you are in the area. The food is cooked perfectly and you will get very generous portions. I highly recommend the Oyster Shooters! Fresh and delicious! The service is fast and friendly and done with a smile. Enjoy!
I ordered fish and chips. I think they used some other fish than cod. It was very flat, and over cooked. The chowder was tasteless. And had lumps of rue in it. Was very disappointed.
