I have been eating here since it opened and even before when Taro was at Mame. Even back then, I was blown away by the quality of the food and the intention with which it is made. Superb. I feel so fortunate that food of this quality is available in Eugene. Eating the nigiri here always makes me super happy and satisfied. It makes any girls’ night or birthday feel extra special. Just found out Sundays and Mondays are easier to get a table here so will be coming back on those days more often.

I’ve been here 6+ times all with amazing service and food. This last time 11/24 was not like that at all. Now Taro is not even making the sushi. Also there is an incredibly rude front staff woman that works there now that also took over as our waiter half way through the meal. Dressed in mopey attire even more so than the usual grungy Eugenian. She took over our table around 8:30p.m. We asked if there was any more sushi coming out with the orders we made and she was absolutely shocked we asked that question. It seemed to ruin her night which makes no sense. She also had no idea, so she went and checked. Ridiculous, as she was our replacement waiter! They were trying to rush us out of there at 8:40p.m. Sushi was good but honestly the whole fine dining sushi experience has been muddled for me. From reading the other reviews on here in the past few weeks this is not a one off experience. Absolutely crazy to have to tip someone 20.% on a 3 person - $180 meal when the short emo lady acted like they were doing us a favor serving us. Servers and people like this are entitled. You do nothing but bring food and are making $200+ a night in 5 hours at a place like this. Pull the stick out!!! Unfortunately will look at other options now even though this is pretty much it in Eugene.

The sushi was super fatty and quality. Especially the marinated pieces, I had never experienced even in Japan. The 10 piece omakase was a special experience. Our bartender was super chill and was knowledgeable of the drinks he served. Everything there was quality.

Hands down best omakase I’ve had and Taro had my friend and I laughing the whole evening. A truly unique experience that I highly recommend to anyone who can do it. Absolutely worth every dollar and I’ll be back again and again

Been coming here for a while and always loved it. Good food, great vibes and friendly people. With that being said, the new front house lady that working has absolutely horrible people skills. Very abrasive as soon as I walked into the door. They don't take reservations there so I had stepped in to see how busy they were going to be while I was waiting for some friends to arrive. This seemed to be the worst thing that has ever happened to her apparently? And very rude when I asked if there were any seats available upstairs. This place has so much potential and it's sad to see it get weighed down with poor service.

Chill vibe. Taro is such a vibrant character. It's an experience, not just a dinner. The food is amazing and great service. I'm always happy when I'm there. I've never been disappointed and always have a great time with fun conversations. This restaurant and the crew is certainly a gem in this community. Eugene is lucky to have this type of establishment.
The sushi was delicious and the staff spoiled us for my daughters birthday. Super fresh variety of nigiri creative unique rolls. Her cocktail was delicious also! We’ll be back!

Taro and his staff at Akira provide an atmosphere, quality of food, and elite service that is second to none. I have lived and eaten at high end Sushi houses throughout the West Coast and I can say without prejudice that Akira is the best of the best. I had a decent day going energetically and went in for a date night tonight, and through Taro's great and honest energy, amazing food, and supporting nature, I left happy and uplifted. Enjoy Akira and you will love the visit!

We came here on a busy night & no reservation! The food was sooooooo delicious. We asked for a chirashi bowl and it was so so so good. We sat at the bar and chef asked what our preferences were too. Erik makes some seriously delicious dessert, id get whatevers on the menu! we had the rhubarb chocolate mochi cake and the plum wine cheesecake. So sad i dont have a photo. Felt very cared for here. 10/10 recommend.
