Nelson's Taqueria + Nelson’s in the Whit

Yes. Go. It’s good. It’s flavorful.

We've eaten at Nelson's in the Whit quite a few times, and every time, we're impressed by the incredible service, freshness and deliciousness of the food, and small details in the atmosphere, right down to the fresh roses on every table.

First, the food: We've ordered meals from every part of the menu and enjoy them all, from the flavors to the lovely presentations. In particular, the Pollo a la Parilla is a favorite of ours. This chicken dish is one of the healthiest things on the menu and is bursting with flavor, especially accented with lime. The Pollo a la Parilla comes sizzling on a bed of peppers and onions. We also have liked the Sampler Platter from the appetizer menu for variety, and it's great for two people to split as a meal. You also can't go wrong with the enchiladas or the nachos with shredded beef, which has just the teeniest hint of cinnamon in it for extra depth of flavor. Heads up on the margaritas: they pack a punch. Like everything at Nelson's, they're high quality, with 15 fresh blackberries in the Blackberry Margarita, for example, but be wise and judicious about your alcohol intake, folks.

Next, the service: Nelson treats everyone who crosses the threshold of his restaurant like he's welcoming them into his home. He and his staff are warm and generous of spirit, and we would eat there all the time just because of them. We love eating at Nelson's simply because the people who work there are so genuinely caring -- about the food and about their customers. Top notch, all the way!

Finally, the atmosphere: As mentioned before, there are fresh roses on every table. The music is pop dance music, usually, creating a festive atmosphere. We especially love sitting at the covered picnic tables outside in the summer to take in the warm weather, and there are heat lamps for that opportunity in the winter, too. If you want to sit at the cozy bar or inside at the tables in the main part of the restaurant, you can do that as well.

All in all, we just love going to Nelson's in the Whit. I'd have pictures, but honestly, the food is so good, we eat up too quickly to remember to take pictures. Maybe next time...

The food was OK. I think my biggest issue was when I came in. I told the host I would like to have a drink while I waited for my food after I ordered she completely ignored me went to the back of the kitchen the entire time and then brought my food out and when she brought it out, I said OK well I guess I won’t be ordering a drink while I was waiting for my food and she said OK. Have a good day so that’s a little frustrating. I don’t think I’ll be back after that. And it wasn’t even busy in there

nelsons has some great food and dining, and nelson himself really knows how to put great energy into his restaurant! thanks for everything 💛

WONDERFUL FOOD AND TOP NOTCH SERVICE! How great that the owners are right there to serve and greet! Salsas and warm chips to start, burrito was perfect! Carnitas had delicious flavor. prices are very fair and A+ quality. Had a virgin margarita and it was yummy too. Thank you Nelson and TJ for putting a smile on our faces after a really rough day for our family. You reminded us that no matter what, there are still beautiful people out here and reasons to cherish time enjoying a meal together. Wishing you many years of success. Li and Sam Mowry

Excellent tacos and burritos, I keep coming back. Nice atmosphere too. Protip: Dine in or pick up--but do not order delivery, it's very unreliable. I have had delivery take 2 hours, and one time the GrubHub driver simply shut off the app after an hour and disappeared. This obviously isn't Nelson's fault. The tacos are pretty irresistible.

We loved the dinner we had at Nelson’s. Nelson took care of us, it was excellent. We had the enchiladas and the chile relleno burrito. The margs are awesome, definitely fresh! 10/10 would recommend.

Surprisingly good Mexican food. Burrito was huge and the side of green salsa was delicious. Chips and salsa was tasty as well. Highly recommend it.

Fabulous food!!! Our waiter Thunder was amazing and the patio is were its at. Super chill place with great food. From chips n salsa to shrimp tacos and their hot sauces are super yummy.. definitely be back.. o and the flan is fantastic

We came in for dinner our first night in Eugene. We were promptly greeted and seated outside which had a great atmosphere. I enjoyed the lighting inside as well as the string lights outside and the heaters.
Our daughter said that the margaritas were wonderful so we ordered a pineapple margarita, a strawberry margarita and a blackberry margarita. All were very delicious.
Our meals were ok. Nothing special about the burritos or the chicken taco salad. The taco salad was very light on chicken to where I had to use the light on my phone to make sure it was in the salad.
The service itself was outstanding, very attentive.
What I found interesting is that they charge you for every little thing you ask for, such as I asked for some sour cream for my salad. I was given a small container of what seemed to be a watered down version of sour cream, the same with the chipotle sauce. I've never seen that before in other Mexican restaurants I have dined at.
It all adds up!
