I am new to tea and came here looking to explore. I told them I had no idea what I was looking for or what kind of tea I liked, and they were incredibly kind and patient, answering all of my questions without making me feel rushed or out of place. I picked four loose leaf teas from different categories and bought one ounce of each to take home and try.

When I came back and shared which one I liked best, they made thoughtful recommendations based on my preferences, which ended up being spot on! I’m now a regular customer, and have found several teas that I keep coming back for more of.

I’ve visited a few other tea shops since and realized how rare this kind of experience is. Some places can feel intimidating or overly elitist, but Portal has never felt that way. The space itself is cozy and inviting, and the staff genuinely seems excited to help people learn and discover what they enjoy.

Olivia in particular has been wonderful. She helped me during my first visit and has consistently made recommendations I never would have chosen on my own, like the Velvet Oolong and Sticky Rice Puer, which have become favorites.

If you’re new to tea or just want a place where you can explore without pressure or pretension, this is it!

My toddler and I went in last week. The atmosphere is cozy, the tea selection is vast, the staff was kind and helpful.
The tea I got to take home was disappointing. I always start with Earl Gray, everyone knows what it's supposed to taste like and there's nowhere to hide if the quality of the tea is off.

The quality was off. The smell was non-existent. The brew was weak, even when I intentionally used way more tea than needed. Genuinely, a stash tea bag made a better cuppa imo.

I absolutely LOVE the tea and the atmosphere! Unfortunately, the customer service has been consistently lacking during multiple visits.

Tonight, (AGAIN) I stood at the counter for about five minutes before being acknowledged, while the two employees continued chatting with each other. After that, it took several more minutes for my order to be taken, and only once a few other customers had begun lining up behind me.

Even more frustrating, customers who ordered after me received their tea first, while I waited an additional 20 minutes as conversations continued behind the counter.

I really want this place to succeed because the product and vibe are great, but the service experience makes it hard to recommend or return regularly.

I adore this place. We got a few things and snagged a couch and coffee table just after 10 am. I strongly recommend the dragon pearl jasmine and masala chai. Stocked up on beautiful ceramics as well. If you prefer strong tea, I suggest letting the cashier know so they brew your tea to your liking!

The tea is normally good, but the chai I just ordered tasted more like milk than chai. Also I stood at the register and waited for 5 minutes to order. There was no one in front of me and they only had two drink tickets up. While waiting, I watched one of the baristas sneeze INTO HER HANDS TWICE and proceed to continue making drinks without washing her hands. Needless to say when she brought me my drink 10 minutes later, I took the lid she was touching when she carried it over off. Again, teas are generally good (at least on previous visits) and I like this place but this incident really grossed me out.

It's very cute, but my drinks have always been very mid. This time, the tapioca pearls in my bubble tea were undercooked and seemed to be unsweetened. The unsweetened may have been on purpose and likely would have tasted fine had they in fact been cooked soft.

Immaculate vibes with impressive tea list and awesome baristas.

Always wonderful to come here! So many lovely teas to choose from (there's a legit menu) and the staff are super knowledgeable with helping you pick the right one. It can get a bit loud when super busy, but they have lots of seating. Not a lot of snacks available.

This is by far the best tea shop I’ve ever been to and if you know me, you know this shop. The people on staff go out of their way to get to know their regulars and make the tea with love. Soothing atmosphere and music as well.

Cute decor but we went there for the matcha and frankly it was kind of bitter. Their biggest size needs to be bigger. Staff wasn’t UNFRIENDLY but not the best barista energy I’ve ever encountered and wait time was long. Overall, as charming as the place was I don’t know that I would be back as I just didn’t enjoy the drink.

Best tea shop in Eugene.
Don't forget to flip through the guest books whilst waiting for your order.
