Walport Family Cellar did not disappoint. Our favorite hands down were the award-winning 2016 Syrah. On the palate, the wine showcases a full-bodied profile with well-integrated tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. The flavors echo the nose, with luscious dark fruits at the forefront, accompanied by the rich leather and tabaco flavor, followed by a hint of plum. Walport Family Cellars offers a serene and welcoming setting with exceptional wines and top-notch hospitality. The spacious seating, cute waterfall, and breathtaking view make it a delightful experience. The staff is attentive but not intrusive, and the house jelly is a must-buy. Dog-friendly with adorable kitties on-site, it's a perfect spot for a usual Sunday hangout. Visitors enjoy the nice wines with a chill vibe that appeals to both young and old, creating an unpretentious atmosphere. The grounds are just half a mile from an astonishingly cool hiking trail up Slagle Road, adding to the appeal. The staff, including a Greg Proops doppelganger, are as cool as the co-owner who first introduced guests to the place. The venue often hosts activities like music in the garden, making each visit better with good food, events, and, of course, wines like the award-winning 2016 Syrah. Overall, it’s a place to experience for the wines first, then for the friendly people who make and sell them.
