So completely different than anything else you've tried you owe it to yourself to give Fritz a shot. Keep an open mind and enjoy flavors you've never even thought of

I love Ethiopian. This was pretty good but there is better close by. Portions were not huge. Service and atmosphere were meh.

I had the veggie combo as takeout and wasn't impressed. The Misir kay wat (red lentils) were pretty good and had a very tiny kick of cayenne. Kik (split peas) were ok with decent flavor. Carrot and potato were fine but not very interesting. The green lentils tasted like nothing - no spices at all, just tasted like plain green lentils with a little salt. The gomen was odd, with a spice I didn't recognize, and the kale had lots of ribs left in and the texture was wrong - heard to chew, like undercooked kale, instead of the melt-in-your-mouth texture of a really good gomen. I don't care for beets, so I didn't eat those, but I tasted the juice and should note they seemed like canned beets with no added flavor or spice. The quantity of food was impressive, so that was good. However, instead of being served on a piece of injera, the food was packed in a plastic clamshell, with a separate Styrofoam clamshell containing what seemed to be just one torn up piece of injera. That was really strange. The injera was very very thick and pillowy, making it hard to grab food with, and it wasn't nearly enough for all the food. I also didn't like that it was torn up; usually Ethiopian is served with a whole injera you can tear up as you like. Overall I really wasn't impressed, especially considering we have some really good Ethiopian restaurants in the Portland metro area. I won't be going back here.

I had the veggie combo. The assortment of lentils, greens, and stewed vegetables was well-seasoned great. I added a little spice for more kick. The variety of flavors in the combo was nice. The injera was soft and slightly tangy; just how I like it. ? Each dish complemented the next. The portions were generous. I left with a small to-go box. Overall, a flavorful and unique vegan-friendly option! Looking forward to the day when everything is vegan.
I ordered kefo. It was delicious. The service was quick, which is that's my kind. The price was fair.Go try !

UPDATE: changed to 1 star because now I have explosive diarrhea.
I want to start by saying that Ethiopian food is my family’s favorite cuisine. We are from the east coast and have tried some of the best spots in the US. That being said, I’m not super picky and I do have a few favorites in Portland.
The food at this restaurant is the worst Ethiopian food I’ve ever tried. I got the vegetarian combo, and it has no spice. The flavors are seriously lacking. It not only tastes like it’s made to accommodate the tastebuds of white people, but specifically older, suburban white people. It’s also greasy, and when you get it to go, the stews are packed directly into styrofoam without even a layer in between. Gross.
I feel so bad for the people in the reviews who are saying this was their first experience with Ethiopian food. The cuisine itself is some of the most flavorful on the planet, but THIS restaurant does not even come close to what I have come to expect.

First of all, the place smelled amazing when I entered! I knew this food was going to be yummy. The flavors were amazing and everything tasted lovely. I’d highly recommend trying this place out, whether you love Ethiopian food or have never tried it before! Personally I had never tried it before but I think I’ve definitely become a lover of this food! I will be coming here again!

My first exposure to Ethiopian food made me wanting to come back again SOON! I was really surprised at the quality of food for the price. I tried to get the most authentic dish and after I felt full and relaxed. The owner let me chat him up about the culture and he shared some amazing insights into his culture and our American ones. I really can't recommend this more highly. The name of the restaurant is accurate -- try it!
