Great food, prime rib and filet, both cooked as specified. Reasonable prices, friendly, rustic western decor. Can't do much better unless you pay double or triple

What a great find. We were on a golf trip around Baker City and were able to sneak in before they closed. The staff was great. Very friendly and accommodating. The Filet Mignon, Powder Valley Flat Iron steak and the chicken fried steak. All of it tasted so good. There were 4 of us and no one left hungry. I highly recommend taking the time to visit this amazing restaurant.

Took a group to the Steakhouse last night and was less than impressed. Typically stop there several times a year when we travel through. After last nights experience we’ll probably just keep driving. Service and drinks to start were slow, one of our guests was ordering prime rib and hadn’t eaten for quite some time, so on the way out of the restroom he stopped by the salad bar to dish up a salad as it’s advertised that it comes with the meal. The owner immediately reprimanded him as he had not ordered yet, mind you we had reservations and drinks that still hadn’t showed up. Between two of the shrimp pasta plates that we ordered there was a a total of 9 little shrimp on the entrees. Prime rib was fair but not great and the 8oz and 10 oz steaks that were ordered were the same size. Service was subpar and to be “disciplined” for getting the ball rolling on dinner I’ll take my $400 plus that I spent somewhere that the business appreciates it next time.

I’m not sure what all the fuss has been, but the quality of the food is as great as it’s always been. It was timely service and courteous, and the atmosphere was great.

Reply to owner - it’s not worth the price when the food isn’t good quality. If you’re going to charge those prices for mediocre food then you should probably consider lowering the prices. Other restaurants with your prices have better tasting food. Quality over quantity. Next.
Food isn't worth the price.The meat taste very bland, burnt and has a slight flavor that isn’t good. So, absolutely not worth the price. The Seafood is extremely overpriced. The salad bar was decent though.

We’ve eaten at the Haines Steakhouse for decades. Through multiple ownerships. We stopped in tonight on our way home from baseball in Baker City. The atmosphere has gotten weirder and weirder. There are stuffed animals all over the place in various sizes. We were joined at our table by a plush penguin. Not a normal experience in western decor. The big disappointment was when our dinner arrived, and my rib steak was all of 1/2 inch thick. Seriously not an exaggeration. Honestly I’ve never experience a rib steak this thin. We were then accessed a users fee for using our credit card. We won’t be going back again. That decision is not solely based on tonight. Several of our recent visits have proved lacking. My husband had already declared he’d never return, after having a horrible chicken fried steak. I convinced him to stop in tonight. Now that we’re definitely both in the same page we won’t be returning. Cove Steak house is closer, and surpasses anything we’ve experienced in Haines in the past year to year and a half. Actually very sad to have seen such a decline.

This place is a treat. The log siding on the interior and wagon buffet adds to this establishments character. Food is always plentiful and service is outstanding. We have never had a meal with anything but above average service. The staff is attentive and smiling. We would give this establishment more stars if we could.

The whole experience was awesome. The prime rib was perfect. It's was a perfect medium rare with just the right amount of fat. It is really worth the trip and rivals cowboy dinner tree in must visit places in oregon.

Took my boyfriend to Haines Steakhouse, his first visit, after telling him for miles how great the food was all the times I've eaten there over the years. Boy oh boy were we disappointed! About the only thing edible was the salad bar. My boyfriend's steak had no flavor and was tough. I ordered the appetizer sampler with mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, prime rib kabobs and bacon wrapped shrimp with my salad bar. When my appetizer dish arrived everything looked like it had been previously cooked and put in the freezer log enough to get freezer burn, especially the bacon wrapped shrimp. It was inedible which was hard to understand as other customers had beautiful steaks and dishes that looked nothing like ours. I'm sad to say after generations of my family and friends having a wonderful time enjoying great food, service and the atmosphere at Haines Steakhouse we definitely won't be back after this experience. Sorry. My advice is go to one of the places in Baker City and skip Haines Steakhouse.

The waitress did not come around very much and when she did she had a frown. We have gone there for many years this was the first time that I have had the worst experience of my life. We will not be returning. The prices have gone way up the service has gone way down. Portions are smaller three of us ordered the same sampler plate one of us got one rib one of us got three ribs how does that figure. Not impressed at all!
