That roaster smell hits you immediately. Owner operator is friendly and knows àll coffee. Interesting to peek in the back at the goings on and ask questions about the big bags of beans. I happened in on Sunday which is when they clean the machine. That means on Sunday you can't choose to grind the beans in house. The dog actually runs the place and would appreciate a treat just for you walking In the door. Respectfully.

I really love trying local coffee - Portland Coffee Roasters, Stumptown, Sisters, Gay Awakening, etc which is why I was so disappointed with the quality of the coffee I purchased. I purchased the Hood River blend (supposedly a medium roast) The only time I have ever had coffee that was this dark was at Starbucks. The beans are super oily, dark and brittle - not at all what I am used to from these small batch roasters.

Great coffee....Their medium roast espresso is super good. It is called MIT Oomph....

This spot is the roastery of Hood River Coffee Roasters, as well as a place where peripheral products and coffee beans are sold. Honma Coffee Roastery has been here for a long time and is considered a time-honored brand. Its sales points are also in the Gorge area, and it has only recently begun to sell to the Portland area.There are so many choices, especially the single-origin beans section. It’s a pity that there is no coffee bar where you can drink and watch beans while choosing what to buy, so I bought their signature Columbia Ribver Blend beans first. The description says medium to dark roast, but it tastes like a full dark roast. When the beans were purchased, they were still very oily on the surface and had a fishy smell. However, the fishy smell did not come out after brewing. It's a dark roasted coffee that I like. Although it is quite bitter, it does not have any sharp and prominent flavor.If you buy it here, not only will the beans be very fresh, but the price of 16oz is the same as the price of 12oz outside. It can be regarded as a discount on the on-site price.

I love the organic coffee selection! I truly appreciate the knowledge and excitement the owner has for coffee as well. I purposely buy directly from the store so I can smell the roasted coffee ☕️ ?

If you happen to be in or near Hood River, don't miss the chance to come and chat with the friendly, knowledgeable people and choose from a fantastic variety of coffee beans not seen in stores. Not only will you eliminate your shipping costs by picking your order in person, you'll learn a lot too. We happened to visit on a day when the industrial-sized roaster was being used, and the place smelled wonderful. We bought three pounds of our favorite variety and one pound of a seasonal blend that we're looking forward to trying.
