Counting down the days until I can be reunited with NYSS. Truly the best in the west

Still the best subs we’ve had. We came 20 years ago on our one year anniversary, now we come every time we’re in town. Always good.

Great sub shop. The service is very friendly and the cheese steak is among the best I've had.

Hard to get to, but I will stop again next time I'm in town. They bake their own bread and the sandwiches are big.Vegetarian options: Salads and veggie subs.

I absolutely love NYC sub shop in Bend and Redmond (at least one of the two are always a "must stop" when we're in Central Oregon), so I was excited to try the Hood River location. It was definitely disappointing. I ordered a Brox sandwich (your basic turkey sandwich), and was never asked if I wanted it heated or not. It was served heated, which I'm not a fan of. Next, I found they had put bacon on it. Don't get me wrong- I love bacon, but there's a time and place for it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize either of these things until I was back on the freeway. My destination was still several hours away, and I needed to get to get there soon so I didn't go back. If they were busier the day I stopped in I would have thought I was just given the wrong order, but there was no one else there, so I think it was just inattention. I tried to stop back by a couple days later (on my way back to the valley), but they were closed due to weather. When we're in Central Oregon, I will 100% go back to the NYC sun shops, but I think I will skip Hood River. If you go, make sure to check your order before you leave...

As reported by a previous reviewer, this is a walk-up business only. 42 degrees outside, and the front door was unlocked. I was the only customer present, and was promptly forbidden from remaining in the store - even while waiting for a takeout order. Must be nice to have so much business that you can chase it away.

Excellent sub sandwiches. You better be hungry, because half of one is almost foot long!

Great subs, we looked for an alternative to fast-food and this place hit the spot! Wanted to try their meatball, but I figured it would be a little messy for the road trip. The Manhattan was the bomb and will definitely try it again when we are in Hood River!

Best sandwich, for sure. All of them. It takes the team a while to make, but the reward is worth waiting for. The 'half' is a foot long...No real value to staying there to eat it. Take it home!

Always been a favorite. Realized it was was bland today… maybe it was because they don’t let you in the door. Used to feel vibey with the menu board, folks clanking on the grill with jars of peppers. Today felt like grab and go at a window… awkward i guess.
