My husband and I dined here last night for my birthday, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. Nathan and Sarah were an incredible duo! Warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate. Every dish was mouth-watering and absolutely delicious. We can’t wait to return!

My husband and I went to Votum in late September for our Elopement Day celebratory dinner! We were visiting Carson, WA from the East Coast and wanted to end our special day somewhere that felt truly special. After searching around, we came across Hood River, and ultimately, Votum. It looked incredible on paper—but in person, it was undeniably the best dining experience we’ve ever had.

We were greeted at the door by Nathan and immediately felt like celebrities. He was so personable and genuine that it felt like we’d become fast friends within minutes. Before finding Votum, we had already booked a chef’s tasting in Portland for later in the week, so we didn’t opt for the tasting menu here. Looking back, that was definitely a mistake—but it just means we’ll have to come back!

Nathan and Sarah went out of their way to make us feel celebrated on our wedding night. Every dish was beautifully plated, and each recipe felt so intentional in its design. I won’t even tell you what to order for two reasons—first, their menu changes often (so you probably couldn’t get what I had anyway), and second, you truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Every time a new course came out, my husband and I looked at each other wide-eyed because we knew whatever was on that plate was about to melt in our mouths.

At the end of the evening, along with our bill, we received a personalized keepsake featuring the menu we’d enjoyed and a heartfelt message from the chef. It was such a thoughtful touch—and something we’ll treasure forever.

Six of us enjoyed an unforgettable, beautifully prepared meal for my birthday. I couldn't have imagined a better place to celebrate. The food was delicious. Chef Sarah is incredibly talented, and Nathan presented everything with great attention and care. He also gave us wonderful wine recommendations. We had a later reservation and never felt rushed. A lovely experience we will be appreciating for a while.

Such a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant with some friends. The young chef is creative and uses the freshest ingredients, and she brought out some of the dishes herself. Fantastic oysters with uni, wonderful salad and veggies, lovely lamb, among other dishes. Perfect service and a nice simple ambience. The wine list has some amazing wines, especially Bordeaux wines, although we would have liked to see more options from the Willamette and Columbia River wineries. It's worth visiting Hood River just to dine here.

This place was absolutely wonderful! The host and chef are a remarkable team. And the food!!!!!!! OMG. My husband said this was the first time he actually tasted a potato. The salmon roe on the salad literally popped in our mouths. The ambiance is secondary to the food. The decor is rather spartan at the moment but we believe they are focusing on the food whose quality mutes the barren walls. We do not like gazpacho. We enjoyed Chef Sarah’s immensely. Someone said the amount of food for the price was not ideal. To that I add that we had the tasting menu which, by definition, is a small amount (ie “taste) but you can order a la carte. The host was very pleasant. We look forward to returning!

Dining at Votum was nothing short of a Michelin-quality experience. Chef Sarah Doyle brings artistry and passion to every plate, crafting dishes that are off the charts delicious, beautifully presented, and full of creativity. Meanwhile, Nathan Ricks orchestrates the entire evening with warmth and impeccable attention to detail, making the service feel both seamless and personal.

Every course was an absolute delight—we honestly didn’t want the evening to end. The combination of Sarah’s extraordinary culinary talent and Nathan’s flawless hospitality made this one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had.

If you’re anywhere near Hood River, do yourself a favor and book a table here. It’s exceptional in every way.

This restraunt exceeded all expectations from the beautiful design inside to the lighting, and the beautiful white tablecloths it could be the 1 reason to go to the gorge. Nathan was great very professional and kind. the chef Sarah cooked exceptional cuisine. It is very impressive how only the 2 are in the restraunt!! This could be a michelin star establishment! We ordered a la carte and it was delicious. First we had a smoked cod and japanese turnip soup, the smokiness of the fish with the acidity of the turnip balanced perfectly with the creaminess of the soup, delicious. We had a bread service before the soup, great bread and butter. We also had a crab pasta, the crispy crab, and the soft a pasta was a beautiful contrast of textures! Then we had lamb and madeira, one word can describe it, delicious. We also had a pork tenderloin with mole, it was full of flavor and had nice texture, the steak was cooked perfectly but it lacked flavor, more sauce would have helped but solid dish overall. We had more great bread and butter. Then dessert! The 1st was a beautiful rasbery semyfredo and 2nd was a toasted barley ice cream. The 2nd was my favorite our toddler ate it all! They even gave us each a pate de fruits and a cookie. Thank you Nathan And Sarah for delicious food and exceptional hospitality.

Votum exceeded every expectation. Chef Sarah concocted the most impressive vegetarian tasting menu to accommodate my diet —each dish beautifully presented, seasonal, and full of flavor. Service by Nathan was flawless,, and the ambiance refined yet welcoming. A rare example of true creativity and hospitality. And that bread!! Absolutely incredible. Thank you Chef Sarah and Nathan for such an incredible experience. They both show how much they love what they do.

Everything from an ambiance to service was just great.
We celebrated our occasion with a tasting menu and paired wines. Every little dish was absolutely amazing and wines selected by maître d' enhanced the taste. It would be very difficult to choose one, favorite dish…
