Hary Carey used to be legit. Something changed. But the food is still off the hook amazing! Just order a beer or a glass of wine so you don't spend $18 on juice 😘

I went here on a date, the group we were sat next to were loud and rude. It's not the restaurant's fault for their behavior but it really made dinner uncomfortable. We got the beef and chicken to share and the meat was delicious, however the fried rice wasn't very flavorful. It was still near white when we were served. The bar was super friendly and accommodating. Overall, it was a just fine dinner and I'd probably recommend it but don't go in expecting to be blown away and it's definitely not the best hibachi.

I’ve called twice now to order food for pick up. Both times I was told I couldn’t order food. Called today at 7:40pm and was told “sorry the kitchen is closed” I said aren’t you open until 9 the lady said no we aren’t, only for reservations. So don’t really know how that works. I asked how early I needed to call to order dinner she said “maybe no later than 7:30?”
So whatever this place sucks now and it always seems like you are inconveniencing them by trying to buy food.
If anyone can crack the code on the 3 hour window you can order food let me know, maybe I’ll try again.

Used to love this place. Went last month. 12 adults to a table used to fit fine now it's crowded, no room everyone practically on top of each other, and people in end chairs are in the way of the chefs carts. Food was good as was the chef but the rest was disappointing

Finally sat at a table last night 45 minutes after our reservation time and took my first bite of food (an overdressed salad with browning lettuce) an hour and 15 minutes after the reservation time. The whole place was chaotic, they’d clearly just had their main dinner rush but it seems the staff mostly mentally checked out by then. We could see lots of cooks and staff in the back and cleaning up other tables while we sat at an empty table for 30 minutes. Anything we asked for we had to ask at least twice, staff flew by us and wouldn’t make eye contact when we were looking to order more drinks or ask for water refills. Every staff member we engaged with forgot something we’d asked for at least one time- but never followed up, we just had to ask another staff member for it when we could find one. There was no apologetic energy in response to repeated mistakes. I happened to run into an old friend I’d not seen in 15 years sitting at our table and when we mentioned MySpace (cuz ya know, the old days) the cook verbally steamrolled me repeatedly to mansplain to us the most recent changes to MySpace and how it functions. Several times I attempted to finish my sentence to my friend and he had zero consideration for our conversation or the fact that we were not interested in what he was trying so hard to “educate” us about. He also casually mentioned that it’s typical to sit down 45 minutes after your reservation time there, which felt a little like gaslighting a hungry customer who planned to eat an hour ago on a Wednesday evening at 8pm. My boyfriend’s medium rare steak was overcooked, his shrimp was undercooked and I was the only person at the table who ordered ONE meat item but he cooked mine last, so other’s enjoyed 2-3 protein items while I waited even longer. Overall, the prices are higher than Oh’s, the time it takes to even see your meal takes longer than Oh’s, quality of food is much better at Oh’s and the service is a sick joke at Shoji’s. They should make it very clear that you’ll be eating over an hour from your reservation time when you make a reservation. They knew I was unhappy about the timing and offered nothing more than for me to add an appetizer to my order (not offered to be comped.) the last time I went to Oh’s and our cook was running 5 minutes behind the owner came around and offered everyone free appetizers- just saying.
We won’t be back to Shoji’s ever- only went there cuz Oh’s is closed on Wednesday. Shoji’s was a horrible experience from start to finish. My boyfriend left a 20% tip anyway cuz he’s nicer than me, but I would have left zero.

Had a good experience tonight I recommend the emperor's choice unfortunately where I sat i got to look at absolutely filthy backside of the grill uhg. Long wait though and you sit with strangers while you dine. That can be fun or a nightmare...

We visited on February 27, 2025
This USED to be our favorite spot for decades.
The chefs and staff USED to be amazing...

No more.

The new ownership has lost the chefs, changed the menu, increased prices, and the food quality is total crap.
*we had 2 orders of steak and shrimp*
1. The toughest grissel-y steak I've ever had.
2. The fishy-iest squishy BAD shrimp.
3. The rice was stale and hard...
all the food was flavorless.
4. The salad was wilted and squishy.
WORST restaurant experience in medford, so far.
Will NOT return.
Unless they make changes and fix these problems, I recommend going elsewhere.

Bring the old shojis back..

Bring the old Shojis back!! Our family came here on Father’s Day for the big scallops and now they have switched to bay scallops. Our chef seemed very new, constantly flicking food on all of us, talked super quiet that we all couldn’t hear him, and the food was SO undercooked. The veggies were all hard, the chicken tasted like it was from a large package to where the chef had to squeeze water out of it, the Bulgogi was cut thick and wasn’t tender or tasted marinated. We’ve been coming here for years and we’re extremely disappointed. The chicken had no flavor and the chef didn’t let the sauce turn into a glaze on the chicken. He also dropped a large portion of beef on the table and proceeded to pick it up with the spatula and put it on my plate and continue cooking, yuck! The portions are much smaller and the food quality has gone down hill. The two good things were the mai tais and Preston was an excellent server. I’m afraid we won’t be returning. So sad and disappointing with the new ownership and all of the poor changes.
