Renae is an incredible baker and person! She saved the day by making my wedding cake with only a week's notice after previous plans fell through. The cake was exactly what I was dreaming of, and at a reasonable price. I highly recommend her!

What a treat!! We’re thrilled with the cupcakes they poured their heart into this weekend. We purchased 200+ cupcakes for our daughter’s wedding and not one was left afterwards. Everyone loved them. The delivery was perfect, the setup was exactly what we wanted, service was phenomenal, and they tasted amazing! :)

I cannot adequately express how above and beyond my expectations Renae, at Custom Cakes NW, delivered in making our wedding cake. I have celiacs disease (I’m allergic to wheat) and wanted to be able to eat (and enjoy!) everything at my own wedding. I spent hours & hours searching out bakeries that made gluten-free wedding cakes and then driving (as much as 1.5 hrs each way!) all over the greater Portland and Salem area testing them, before finding Custom Cakes NW—in my own backyard—and what a find it was! It was the clear winner of all the cakes we tried, BY FAR.
Our cake was not only beautiful, but it was absolutely DELICIOUS! Moist and tender, the perfect amount of sweetness. Perfection. I/we could not have been happier. We told our celiac and gluten sensitive guests that it was gf and they were so stoked to get to share in eating the cake and EVERYONE raved about how wonderful it was. It was a massive hit! I/we couldn’t have been happier!
Not only that, but Renae was so easy to work with—her input was so valuable, regarding what type of icing, etcetera—she delivered it to our reception, set it up for us, *and* it was more affordable than any of the other bakeries we’d tried or considered (and none of the others came close to being as good!) we especially loved the gf chocolate with caramel mousse filling and buttercream icing. Amazing! I’m ordering one for my next birthday and our anniversary.

Seriously, best cake ever.

Oh! And the pavlova (naturally gluten-free) was also freakin’ delicious and beautiful too!! (shown in last pic :))

I’m so happy we decided to go with Custom Cakes NW for our wedding. Renae was incredibly communicative throughout the entire process, promptly responding to our initial inquiry, and accommodating any special requests we had. The tasting process was really fun, and she gave us lots of flavor ideas we never would have even thought of. And most importantly, the cupcakes and wedding cake were so flavorful and moist! She really is the best in the business.

Regrettably, words alone cannot adequately capture the essence of Renae's character and the exceptional quality of her confections.Several years ago, my then-fiancé and I scoured the Portland metro area in pursuit of the perfect wedding cake artisan. Armed with a curated list of vendors derived from online reviews, we embarked on a daylong cake-tasting journey, visiting 5 or 6 establishments (a cake-filled odyssey that proved to be, in retrospect, an ambitious endeavor for a single day). Renae's establishment was our final stop, and despite our cake fatigue, her creations immediately resonated with us. The one-hour drive was a trifling investment compared to the extraordinary cake that awaited us. Our multi-tiered masterpiece, each layer boasting a distinct flavor, surpassed all expectations. Its deliciousness prompted a cascade of compliments, underscoring the reason for Renae's numerous accolades on WeddingWire.Since that momentous day, we have evolved into devoted patrons, annually commissioning Renae to craft cakes for special occasions. The raspberry pinot cake with vanilla buttercream has emerged as our perennial favorite. Renae's ingenuity shines through each year as she varies the design and buttercream color, yet the cake's impeccable taste remains unwavering. Our love for her creations has led us to progressively larger orders, a testament to our desire for an extended indulgence in the delectable leftovers.Renae, a masterful baker and perpetual learner, continually hones her cake designing skills. Our cake was amazing!!! When we did our cutting at our wedding, both my husband and I went right back in for seconds. We didn’t eat the cupcakes but heard they were amazing as well. Unfortunately someone through out our wedding cake before we could save it, and we were both very upset since that was the best cake we’ve ever had. We plan to inquire in the future.

Renae made 3 different cakes for our wedding because we couldn't pick just one flavor. On our wedding day she put extra care into the set up and made sure they were in the perfect spot. Our guests all ended up sharing so that they could each try the different flavors. Besides getting married, the cake was one of the highlights of that day.

I am compelled to write a review because Renae went above and beyond for a client last year. Renae could have legally cancelled an order one month before the wedding because of circumstances that were out of her control. But instead, knowing that the bride would not find a baker to make this cake in one months time, and while grieving the loss of a very close family member, she went above and beyond to complete the cake and get a reputable person to deliver it.In this rare instance a mistake was made on the contract and neither party caught it. The client wrote, "She had written down the wrong shape and unknowingly I looked past that detail." When a client receives a contract they have a responsibility to review the information and check for accuracy. By paying the invoice you are saying that you agree with the terms of that invoice and contract. It was unfortunate but both parties share the responsibility of that error.As for the delivery I was hired to complete, it was by the numbers. There was no "breakdown and setup" for this cake as it was delivered already put together. I asked for the onsite coordinator and the bride is who showed up. She asked why it was not square and I could only tell her what was on the contract and to call the baker after she returned from her honeymoon. I couldn't change the shape but I did go shopping for to-go cake boxes that she had requested and brought them back to the venue.At the end of the day this was a gorgeous cake that almost didn't happen. I applaud your dedication Renae. Job well done.

Just celebrated my 1 year not long ago. This review is mainly on the professional aspect of things after signing the contract and an aesthetic mistake made to the cake. I received a call about a month from my wedding date with the owner saying she was going out of town and instead of canceling my order she was going to still make it and have a friend deliver it to the venue. Honestly that stressed me out. And in reality it's not legal to just cancel a contact. That's the whole point of a contract. Delivery was a huge hang up at first. She mentioned having a policy that if a cake is more than two-tieres she doesn't allow pickups because her name is on the line, but after some discussion she said she would allow someone else to come pickup my cake if they signed a waiver. Fair enough. I ended up putting it in the invoice that I was going to pay the delivery fee (it was per mile). Her friend showed up and instead of seeking out the DOC to go through the breakdown and setup she was going through the information with me when I had to be in the bridal suite getting ready. I was honestly bummed out when I first seen it and still to this day when I look at pictures. The shape of the cake was not what I requested. It might seem like something miniscule to some, but the shape I wanted was very important to me. I stressed that during our consultation. She had written down the wrong shape and unknowly I looked past that detail. I wanted traditional square shapes. My H remembers me saying that. Round is on trend and overdone imo (nothing against what others like). My engagement ring is princess cut, my wedding ring is princess cut in kite setting, my dress had square shaped diamonds embroidered on some of the lace. The shape was important to me. I had even rented an ornate silver square cake holder. I ended up using it because I had no other choice last minute so there's definitely that distinction.It was still cake at the end off the day, but when you pay a good chunk of money, you hope and trust that it's exactly what you want.

Renaes cakes are incredibly delicious and beautifully designed. She was great to work with and her black forrest and vanilla / fresh blackberry cream cakes were to die for!! We only wished we would have ordered a bigger cake so we would have had more to enjoy after our special day! Would highly recommend her to anyone looking for the best cakes in the newberg area!!

Custom cakes NW made us cupcakes for our toddler's birthday and they were a big hit! Minnie Mouse themed with pink vanilla cake and a strawberry creme frosting. Kids and parents loved them.
