alaska roll. Idk. The table next to us had plastic in their soup. The salmon was chewy.

Some of the freshest sushi seafood I've ever tasted. Plus really helpful staff

The star of my meal was the Sunshine roll, with a deep ruby roe.

I thought the rice here was slightly more vinegar forward than most other places, and the salmon roll had a chew to it as it wasn't minced.

There's a sense of humidity and fry smell in the air.

There's some sort of genuine pride at this restaurant I think, about the food quality.

Delicious sushi. My husband and I were the only customers for the majority of the time. Once we had our food, I was shocked that this was the case. Everything was fresh and very tasty. I can't wait to be back.

It's changed a lotsashimi was inedible :/ I rolled the dice and ate my roll with fresh fish cause there was so much sauce and I couldn't actually see the fish that wellthe miso was good although she dipped her finger in it after spending time cleaningI thought I'll risk the illness lolbut yeah there is a strong language barrier n the sashimi did not seem fresh super chewy (i didn't finish it)merp also my bill was almost 30 including a tip with one roll sashimi and miso quite pricey

Everything seemed to be prepared on the same cutting board. Even the sesame buns and fried banana tasted fishy. Ordered To go the hot items were placed on top of the sushi in the same bag. Nothing tasted as intended. All the hot items seemed to be cooked from frozen.Edit: gave me and wife food poisoning.

This experience was more unfortunate than my grandmother's funeral. I used to love this place. The new ownership could not be more awkward and the entire service was some sort of cringe humor wet dream. The person cooking, serving, cashier and well, everything was completely outside her depth of knowledge. She also could not communicate with any patron that did not speak mandarin. She would point at the menu and say sorry and then call someone who would then yell at me about the menu items and then communicate with her, only to begin a heated conversation in their native language, which made her storm off. There were several moments where my wife and child began to plan an exit strategy only to be told to sit rather enthusiastically with pantomime motions. After 45 mins 1 item of 4 came to the table and that was that. There wasn't any thing else brought. But they were on the bill that was given with the plate. I tried to point the items out only to have her call the person again. I felt terrible for her she didn't know the menu the language the food she was supposed to make. I don't see this place lasting at all. But if you love meet the fockers you will love this cringe worthy dining destination.

Went Tengu Sushi in Newport a small Japanese restaurant rihhg on the 101 hwy.Ordered the Jalapeno Tempura, a Godzilla roll (pictured below), and some eel and octopus sushi. The food was really great the atmosphere was quiet, the restaurant was empty except for us, the service was slow (though they have signage explaining that), and our server did not seem knowledgeable or even able to understand some of the menu item questions we had.All in all, if and whenever I return to Newport, I will make it a point to eat here again.

Food: Ordered several different items. None of the raw fish was very fresh, by any great standard. Off-color and very off-putting in flavor. Did not finish much of the order. Spicy tuna was oddly watery. We weren't sure if frozen tuna had been chopped up and mixed in. Flavors were kind of all over the place. Spider roll had thick glops of batter on the inside that were not cooked fully through, or were wet and mushy. Roll not sealed completely. Not nice.Service: Quite poor, server became rude and snippy after we sent back a drink that wasn't quite right. Food for two people [three rolls, four orders sushi], took about 35 minutes.Atmosphere: Generally dirty, dishes, glassware, tables. Everything seemed to have a bit of grunge crusted onto it. At least the dining room is small and has a bit of light.Overall, I would not recommend this location, or will we ever be returning. It genuinely was a disappointing waste of both time and money. I know that food on the coast is considered a little hit or miss, but this place has fallen a VERY long way in the last two years. It's such an unfortunate disappointment, considering what it used to be.

The worst experience we've ever had here, which is very sad, as this was our go-to sushi place!! It appears the ownership has changed since they reopened 12/28/23. The 2 employees have no idea what they're doing, can't speak English, and don't even know what they have on their own menu. It took an hour and a half to complete AND it was all wrong! They literally had the menu with the pictures of each item, trying to prepare the food by its picture, as I'm pretty sure they couldn't read English either. Save yourself a lot of grief by not going there. You will regret everything about it, from service to the food.VERY DISAPPOINTED! ?
