My wife and I don’t go out to eat very often, but when we do, Afuri is almost always in our top three choices. We’ll occasionally branch out and try something new, but our go-to dishes are the Tonkotsu Tantanmen, Kara-Tsuyu Tsukemen, and the Sashimi Moriawase. All are consistently excellent.

Terrible time there. first my son got the kids size of ramen and when he got it the broth tasted like nothing! same with the noodles. also the service was bad the waiter we had never offered more water just took are order and gave us the bill. the wagyu tartare was good not worth 72$!

A long time favorite for ramen, always consistently great, one of my favorite restaurants in Portland!

Beautiful space and very good visit overall. Ordered 1 vegan ramen (spicy miso cashew) and 1 traditional pork ramen (shoyu) as well as sushi rolls. It was tasty all around and I’d happily visit again, though would be interested to try the salads, apps, and non-ramen entrees next time.

A bit of a cut above the standard Portland ramen/izakaya place. Watch out on racking up a huge bill because there are lots of tempting items.

The food is a bit refined and there are lots of polished looking Portland chef types stationed exactingly throughout the large open kitchen. If you want to try a high end ramen then come!

My earlier experience was good. This time? The fish was not fresh, the rice is the sushi not right, the beer either stale or through bad lines, the service... Is it fair to give a 2 star review?

Nobody likes change, so that’s the reason for my ambivalent score. Afuri has changed one of their most popular ramens. We’ve been customers of Afuri since 2018 and have found it to be a reliable and fantastic ramen spot, we buy every out of town guest dinner here because we liked it so much. Tonight learned that they changed the Tonkatsu Tantamen by adding diced raw red onions. My server saw me picking out the onion bits and mentioned that it was a change to the menu and that it was included in the ingredients on the menu. I hadn’t noticed because for the last 7 years this is the only ramen I ever order. She did say that she’d mention it to her boss, but no offer for a new bowl. Our server did mention that she should have pointed that out when we ordered (based on our convo), but that’s the extent of it. I’ve never had raw onions in ramen (and I lived in Japan and don’t eat raw onions). On the good side, the broth is rich and flavorful, the pork crumbles and other ingredients are perfect. It doesn’t comes with a ramen egg, you have to order that separately for some reason (they come with the other ramens), but it adds to it. I could go again and omit the onions and whatever else they’re changing, but I’m ready to move on. We likely will change our ramen spot to Muteki Ramen in Gresham. We’ve had great ramen there, it’s quirky and fun, and the black garlic ramen haunts my dreams, it’s so good!

We eat here regularly and it's always a lovely time. Usually sit at the bar and the tenders are great. Drinks are always well made and the hot sake hits the spot on cold nights.
