That place left me with an unclear opinion about my experience. Looks like everything should work out perfectly: lovely location, neat surroundings, and mouthwatering menu. But somehow I left unplesed. Food was hiding under the thick layer of sauces and even the manager confirmed, that they were not able to do dressings on the side (so, that's a sign for me that everything is premade and not freshly cooked). He also told us that all the produce comes from the farm markets. Still not the proov is anything of that anything is organic or natural. Scallops were dried and overcooked, but I can confess, risotto was beyond delicious, fresh and tasty. I'm not a drinker, so I can’t tell if the wine is worthy, but this is definitely not the place for delicacies healthy diner.

Disappointed by Inconsistent Service and Hostess Attitude

I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share our recent experience at Amaterra. After enjoying a pleasant visit not long ago, I decided to bring my family back and even signed up for the membership to do so. Unfortunately, the service this time was disappointing—especially from the front-of-house staff.

We were running a bit late due to traffic, but one of our family members arrived on time and checked in with the hostess, letting her know we were running late. When we arrived, we asked about our family member, and the hostess—Julia—was dismissive and unnecessarily rude. She told us that our family member had gone back to the car after waiting “a long time,” and asked if we had her number, which came across as condescending, especially since it was my mom’s sister.

What should have been a minor inconvenience turned into a tense situation. My mom became upset, which in turn upset my aunt, and she almost left entirely. Rather than de-escalating, the hostess added tension with a poor attitude and unnecessary remarks. I remained unsettled throughout the visit because of the tone set at the beginning.

To be clear, our server Bailey (I believe that’s how her name is spelled) was excellent and salvaged what could have been a completely ruined experience. She was warm, attentive, and professional.

Still, I was frustrated by the drastic difference in service between staff members. When you pay for a membership and bring guests to enjoy what is supposed to be an elevated experience, consistent hospitality matters. I hope Amaterra addresses this, as first impressions and customer care are vital—especially at a members-only winery.

Excellent winery so close to Portland! A friend of considering getting married here and it's a perfect spot! The wine is excellent - I especially enjoyed the Roses!

One of the servers Olivia is amazing and extremely helpful in a not so great situation. Had a better experience at the wedding I attended because of her.

Outstanding food, service and wine. From the greeting we received from Abby to the creative menu from Chef Jamie, my wife and I had an amazing time. Jennifer was our server and her knowledge of their wine and food was very appreciated. The views over the valley are the best in Portland. Highly recommend!

This place is a beautiful space located in the Portland City Limits. Jennifer, who signed us up last visit in our anniversary, has been absolutely amazing! She is a true asset to your organization and I am so glad to have found this gem. AMAZING!

Hostess was rude and bougey. They charge you 25$ for the privilege of dining there without being a member. Avoid

Lovely setting. Great service( Bailey was wonderful). Food is good but portions are way too small for the cost compared to other wineries and bistros. We liked the rose and the Pinot noir. Other wines just ok. I would recommend a little more generosity in the size of the pours and the portion sizes on the boards.

Chef Jamie is truly one of a kind and has a remarkable way of making you feel like family.

My husband and I made dinner reservations at Amaterra for the first time since our wedding there in 2022, joined by our son and parents. From the moment we booked, Chef Jamie went above and beyond—personally calling to review the menu options with me due to my celiac allergy. He even took the extra step of selecting the same wines we enjoyed at our wedding.

To say the experience was special would be an understatement. We couldn’t recommend this winery and restaurant more—especially for meaningful events and celebrations.
