Was in Portland visiting from the East Coast - decided to check this spot out due to all the great reviews I see on Yelp! Spot was solid, definitely see why it's so popular. Got there roughly 5 minutes after the restaurant opened (5:05 pm). Because they just opened not too many people there so I grabbed a seat at the bar (which was empty). Glanced through the food and drink menu. Pizza's obviously their specialty, though they also serve calzones and salads. They also have a good selection wine, cider, and beer, including some local craft beer. Most draft beers were $7 with 64oz pitchers priced at $26, which seemed reasonable. I ended up ordering one of the local draft beers (forget which one). So they don't do slices here, but, even though they're not in the menu, they serve 12" pizzas, which are small enough for one person. You can build your own pizza or order one of the wide variety of "house" pizzas they offer. I ordered the 12" pepperoni and sausage pizza, which was priced at $17.50 ($15 for pepperoni pizza + $2.50 for sausage topping). The pizza came out fairly quickly and was great! I'd grade the pizza on the same level (though probably not QUITE as good) as some of the best pizza I've had in NYC (the pizza had a similar taste and feel, for example, as some of the pizza I've had at Lombardi's in Lower Manhattan). The pizza was very good, though did come out with a slightly burnt taste. The spot started filling up as I ate. Most of the patrons were dressed up, though the dress code is technically casual (I was dressed casually). They also had some classic videogames in a room across from the bar (Galaga, Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong, Frogger, among others), which was cool. The servers/bartenders were all friendly and on point with their service. Ate at a handful of restaurants in Portland, I'd say this one was the best. Would definitely recommend and I'll likely be back if I ever go back to Portland.

Never meet your heroes. I've been looking forward to trying Apizza Scholls for years. Sadly I won't be back. Pizza was too salty and we couldn't finish it. It feels as if the quality has dropped ever since the owner/founder decided to turn over the reigns to less passionate people.

Took friends here this evening who are visiting from out of town. We stood in a short line so that we could get in when they opened. (It turned out that wasn't necessary). The man at the door was absolutely one of the rudest people I've ever met. Very unnecessary and uncalled for. I think we all 4 wanted to turn around and go somewhere else but we didn't. Food was good. Our waiter was super nice. But I have to say - it doesn't feel good to be treated so rudely from the start. There are many, many places to eat in Portland. Maybe they don't care here?

tldr; Low quality overpriced food. NOT New Haven style pizza. Rude over-privileged staff. HIDDEN gratuity (18%) on take out. (-_______-)/ IF you get good service here, consider yourself lucky. If you get good food here, you must be somewhere else because they don't offer it. Plain and simple these people don't deserve "Apizza" in their name. It is the polar opposite of New Haven style pizza, and i'd bet the n00bs that run this place have never been. Their wait system is terrible, they publicly berate customers (seen it, read it), and sweet Satan's tomatoes their food is wildly overpriced.

We've tried a bunch of Anthony Bourdain recommended restaurants and almost all of them disappointed. Maybe it was the hype, maybe after enjoying some publicity and business, the restaurants checked out. We'll never know... but Apizza Scholl's was absolutely amazing. We went there to pick up. I wanted to make sure we had 1 bite before we left and we each took a bite out of our trunk. We got the Moxie's and Caesar. Though I prefer my salads cut up, the food was all stellar and did not disappoint. That crust man.

This place can get packed fast. I'd go early. Pizza comes out relatively fast. I like the nice crispy bottom. The tomato sauce is sweet. The Caesar salad was solid with the additional anchovies. Plenty of crunch in the romaine. Definitely recommend coming for their pizza

This is the best pizza I've ever had. The staff was great, even with the very busy dinner rush. We ordered a half New York White (Red) and half Diablo Blanco. It was so good we went back a few days later.Vegetarian options: A fair number of vegetarian pies, or ones that could be made vegetarian.

Best. Pizza. Ever. I'm not joking when I say we've been thinking about apizza scholls everyday since getting back home from our trip. Literally the best pizza I've ever had. We came by on a Saturday around 8:15 hopinggg they still have enough dough. Luckily we were sat and they literally sold out just 15 minutes after we came. There's 2 doors you can come into. One was for pickup/togo and one for dine-ins. Our waitress was nice and helpful. It's small and intimate inside and you can see into the kitchen where the magic happens. Perfect for date nights. Their base is sourdough and is perfectttt. It's crispy and chewy and thin but still has a bite to it. It's an art honestly. We got the apizza amore for that elevated touch from the margherita. Also, get the arugula! It's tossed in olive oil and salt. Sooooo good on the apizza amore. I dream of the day i can have this again ~

First time here, and we were not disappointed. Excellent crust, perfectly baked. The house made sausage is incredible. We were seated quickly, and our pizza arrived quickly as well. Loved the atmosphere, except the 80's hair band music, which was too loud. Prices were reasonable.

If you are looking for a place with real pizza, this is your spot! A place that feels casual, yet a little fancy. You could bring or date or even a family. They actually have a little area in the back with classic arcade games. It has a bar with a few stools, but they only serve beer and wine! The staff is super friendly and quickly responds to all your wants and desires. We had several people stop by to ask if we needed anything or to help grab empty plates/cups. Our table started off with some olives and some wine. It feels like you want some bread, but you know you will soon have pizza. The Caesar salad was phenomenal! Fresh and well dressed, anchovies are recommended. I loved the croutons! We had two pizzas split into halves. One with half Pepperoni and half Margherita, the other with half Tartufo2 The Electric Boogaloo and half Pig & Pineapple. They were all incredible! Well seasoned, amazing crust - not too burnt. All of the toppings were delicious - I think the boogaloo was my favorite. I will definitely be back to try a few more options. No slices - so best to go with several people. Prices are moderate and I highly recommend going!
