Many of the dishes can be made veganized. They also have many “melt your face” spicy options. I got the cold dipping tantan ramen and it was very good. Nice to have another solid ramen option in town.

Best ramen shop in the city. I was surprised at how easily this restaurant overtook my historical favorite spot. Great variety, excellent broth, and a whole menu section for spice lovers. Seating space is limited, but I would stand outside in the rain and eat the food here if I had to. Try the shishito poppers!

It’s #2 best ramen restaurant per Oregonian news paper. So I tried the most simple shoyu ramen. Shoyu is the very basic ramen, so if this is good, most likely everything else is good in my opinion. Well, it was good, but it wasn’t surprisingly great. My score was 7 out of 10. But their service was good!
My daughter had a spicy one, it wasn’t just spicy but also packed with umami and it was good taste. Pork charsiu was too fatty and only one slice was enough, but it was tasty.
Ramen preference is really different by individual, it’s hard to rank ramen. I prefer the basic simple ramen like Kinboshi, but Baka Umai is also good in different ways.

Food was good! I loved the sweet and creamy shiitake mushrooms and pork broth. Noodles were a bit thin though and didn’t feel very authentic. The staff were very kind and helpful.
It can get a bit cold at times since most of the walls are uninsulated garage door style windows.
Great if you want a mid-range priced meal by yourself or as a family and don’t care about walking 5 minutes to and from your chosen mode of transportation.

Parking: Took me a while to find parking it was a Friday night, a few days after Christmas, so naturally parking was difficult to find.

Kid-friendliness: As long as they’re quiet.

Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible.

I’ve gone here for years and have started to write reviews multiple times only to get distracted when my delicious ramen arrived. I just saw that they were voted the second best ramen in the Portland area (although they’re my #1), so I felt motivated to finally get my review posted. The chef is an artist in my opinion and makes a number of ramen and other dishes you won’t find anywhere else. There’s lots of creativity here and if you like spicy food then you won’t be disappointed as there are options for a variety of spicy ramen and add-ins for every level of heat you want. The first time I tried ramen here I was surprised how every item in the bowl was not only very distinct from other places, but super good. As a foodie who has been to a lot of the best restaurants in the city, this is definitely one of my favorites!
