I knew the Olympia Provisions empire stretched beyond their eponymous headquarters, but was still pleasantly surprised to see how far, while checking their website. Bar Casa Vale is the Spanish offshoot, and I'm thrilled to have paid a visit.
First off, croquetas were spectacular - perfectly done. The octopus was among the top 3 I've ever had, anywhere. Patatas Bravas had just the right amount of seasoning, like everything else we tried here. All in all, the bar food here compares favorably with anything I've had, anywhere in Spain.
The space is welcoming - with lighting that makes it easy to read the menu, while being subdued at the same time. Service was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient, without hovering.

We have been going to BCV since 2018 and recently visited again in June, 2025. The new menu is horrible. The Potato’s Bravas was not good and had no flavor. Our service was bad and the server was rude when we asked polite questions.

If you’ve been to BCV before, I would highly recommend not going back with their new menu and service level. There are many other better choices in Portland now.

We loved the experience!
We went to this restaurant for our friend’s birthday and chose the chef’s tasting menu, which meant we didn’t have to decide on each dish—the chef created a beautiful course from appetizers to dessert. Everything was delicious, and the portions were just right. I especially appreciated the variety of small, family-style tapas dishes. We really enjoyed the octopus—so flavorful and perfectly cooked! A wonderful evening all around.

The pork steak melted in your mouth it was absolutely wonderful oh my God I cannot believe how good it was.

It’s a trendy place with trendy food. It’s very good food but not worth the prices they charge for the meager portions you get.

We totally enjoyed this place!

The perfect place for a date night filled with fun and Spanish tapas. We loved the sangria, the Roasted Romanesco cauliflower, and the Steak Banderilla. Our server was wonderful, we’ll definitely be back.

We sat at the bar and ordered the “and so on” cocktail and a beer, the atun crudo, the gildas, and the octopus. The atun crudo was my favorite. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was great!

We were drawn here from the warm ambience from the street. Food was amazing, it felt like an authentic tapas experience. Our group had an array of cocktails which all satisfied. Host / server were honest with us about our table time (we did not make a reservation) which was appreciated instead of being passive aggressive about moving us along. Would recommend to others and we plan to come back!

Great, authentic restaurant with some northwestern twists. Sangria is killer, Patatas Bravas is near 1:1 from when I traveled to Spain. Really enjoyed the tasting menu and the service is impeccable here. Also recommend the roasted cauliflower, some excellent flavors in that dish.

All in all, a pretty "chic" little tapas bar. Enjoyed everything for the most part; pretty eclectic menu, good service, nice atmosphere. Good place for a date as there aren't a lot of distractions like TVs or crazy wall art and gimmicks.

Only drawback was the compulsory 20% tip. They just add it to the bill so you don't have any say in addition to some small additional fee. They mention it when they bring the bill, not when you order and it isn't posted anywhere. It's an underhanded practice so for that reason we wont be back.

Tips, by definition, are an added "thank you" for exceptional service (hence the term "gratuity"). To sneak them in at the end, at higher than standard rate, is extortion.
