First time trying their food. The owner Phil is so awesome and really takes pride in what he makes . I got the braised beef buns and the pork ones too . Both were phenomenal and the little salad on the side is such a great balance . So unique, loved it all .

Review for the new cart outside Alchemy Cider.
While visiting PDX for work I was staying at the Jupiter NEXT and saw this cider tasting room with a cart outside and decided to see what was up. Man am I glad I did.
This little cart is outside of the Alchemy Cider tasting room. The chef is super nice and friendly and talking to him we learned this is actually their second location and both are doing quite well. The play on words was just kitchy enough that I remembered the name easily but nothing too over the top.
My wife and I went twice. The first time she tried the orange chicken bao and I had the shrimp bao. For $9.50 you get 2 baos and a side of savory slaw that is wonderful and a great palate cleanser. I'm dairy free so I couldn't have the aioli that usually comes with the shrimp but the substituted Korean Fire sauce more than made up for it. Lots of flavor and heat, no face melting.
The second time I had the shrimp bao again but my wife had the pork belly one and loved it even more than the first one!
You can add additional baos for more money but the 2 and slaw was a perfect deal to accompany our cider.
10/10, we'll definitely be back here!

10/10 this place is awesome. I went late when there wasn’t anybody in line and got the Chicken yakisoba and the smell of this being cooked could lift you off your feet like a looney toons character this smelled absolutely divine.it’s tangy and fresh and it was filling which i appreciate for $15.50 altogether which I think is extremely fair for the amount of food I got. Very satisfying meal. Eat here!

I first ordered from Breaking Buns soon after they opened. I don’t like fast food and mostly make my own food as I’m a better cook than most. I was crazy hungry one night and they were open late. OMG!, I was served the Braised Beef Yakisoba and it blew me away. I have since ordered my dinner dozens of times and every time the food is amazing. I’ve tried other items, all wonderful but the braised beef is incredible and I want it on everything. It’s totally lean (no fat) and it’s so good I will take out little pieces and suck on them (my face just turned red) moving on… The portions are enough to feed me and my guy for 3 days. I even love it cold. Go there! You won’t be sorry. I promise!

I have to admit I am a bit of a food snob. When I taste a cuisine new to me I am looking for a great experience, anything less and I don't go back. Well, I have been back 6 times or so now!
Their flavors are very balanced and full bodied. I do not need any other seasonings at all. The people are friendly and attentive.
Regarding portion size, you can take your biggest eater and they will be quite satiated!

so good. thank you 🥲
I ordered the Ota Tofu Bao without Szechuan mayonnaise, but it still had sweet soy sauce. However, I couldn't even taste it, so the bun was bland. Conversely, the Yakisoba was flavorful, but had too much onion. Updated from previous review on 2025-06-07
YES! Just yes.

Got our first order from Breaking Buns and it definitely won't be our last! The bao were perfectly steamed & fluffy, even after traveling in a car. We had the Szechuan Chicken and Szechuan Cow, which I was worried would be too similar in flavor, but they absolutely weren't, but both were excellent. My husband and I will definitely going back to try them all.
