Very cute restaurant, nice little location. The staff is wonderful. But I tried their famous French toast (even though everyone here said it's terrible) because I love french toast and I figured if it's their legendary meal then I should try it. I don't know if this is what they intended, but it's almost like bread pudding. I feel that they soak the bread - maybe overnight? It is so incredibly soft and soggy in the middle. I'm not even sure if it's cooked. It's supposed to be a lemon curd french toast and I didn't taste any lemon at all. I asked for my hash browns to be extra crispy. It was more like a blop of mashed potatoes that had been browned on each side. They were not exactly hash browns. Cute place and maybe other items on the menu are fantastic but I was just not thrilled with my meal at all.
Once a Portland resident. I have always loved your restaurant. I was so happy to return and find it a exactly the same. Everything about our breakfast was spectacular. I may even go as far to say the the scallop and shiitake mushroom omelette is probably the most exquisite and elegant food combination. That right there should make you a Michelin restaurant I'll be back. And soon. Thank you for remaining true to yourselves.
I have eaten here in the past for dinner and it was actually good but this was the worst experience I've ever had. My boys are not picky but even they said their food was awful. Salmon was cold and hashbrowns were frozen in the center. We waited over an hour to get our food. The server was nice but clearly overworked as he was the only one upstairs. Definitely need to fix something before we would ever come back here again!
Really disappointing experience from a restaurant that has good ratings. Food arrived cold and tasted bland.
We love cafe du berry and have been coming here for over 30 years. Lately service has been lacking, they have run out of signature items and food is still good but not what it used to be. I hope they can fix whatever is happening because it is our families favorite brunch spot!
I've had several different meals here. Eggs benedict are awesome as are the shirred eggs. This last time, however, I went for the tuna fish sandwich. Absolutely delicious! Their house-made mayo is outstanding. I have never been disappointed here.
What a lovely spot for dinner! We had the French onion soup, the pepper steak and the salmon. Everything was well prepared and delicious. Service was excellent. We sat out on the heated porch, which was very comfortable. We will be back!
Charming, well located café. Food was excellent & vibe was just right to catch up with a friend over lunch!
The wait staff were terrific and nice. I had a delish french toast and bacon - and it was six slices of bacon! Prices reasonable. I did have a little trouble finding the building, but luckily open table had a photo, so I found it. Plenty of free street parking on the block. Can't wait to go here again.
Hands down the best hash browns in Portland. Even after talking Du Berry up to others, it never fails to deliver. The food is consistently great. Whether you prefer a savory (the creamed spinach omelette is my go to) or sweet (phenomenal French toast), the menu has you covered. Cafe Du Berry is one of Portland's best kept little secrets.

No air conditioning, but some weak fans in the corners. (It must be so much worse for the kitchen staff!) The mimosa salad looked and tasted good, but the corned beef sandwich was pedestrian, with over-salted, shaved deli meat. Overall, an unpleasant experience.
Food was great and the server was delightful. The parking is scarce and the ambiance inside is a bit worn. I have heard rave reviews about breakfast but not sure it's a great choice for a dinner meeting depending on your clients.
It was our first time at this Cafe and we really enjoyed it. The service was really slow, however, and even though the ambiance is funky, it needs updating. Food was really good!
The service was efficient but kind and patient and that always makes the experience so much better. The food was dee-li-cious. On this Mother's Day, I looked forward to and was not disappointed by the treat that I allow myself once in a while, the French toast, served with just the right amount of syrup and a sprinkling of powdered sugar with fresh and tasty fruit on the side. I suggested it to my bff and she loved it as well. My husband and my son-in-law enjoyed the Spanish omelette, my daughter simple eggs and toast. All the dishes were oven hot and we were comfortable and cozy in the outside area. Cafe Du Berry is a little gem that we are lucky enough to have in our neck of the woods.
I took my family out for Mother's Day brunch. It could not have been a better dining experience. The wait staff was fantastic. My coffee cup was never empty. Great variety on the menu. The food was excellent.
