Despite living in Chinatown, I have very few Chinese options available to me. I have celiac disease, you see (that gluten free thing, but in my case it's an actual medical issue, not a dietary preference), and while a couple of Chinatown restaurants claim to have gluten-free options, they lie.Canton Grill was recommended to me by a fellow celiac sufferer, and while they don't have a dedicated gluten-free menu or cooking space, upon request they do their honest best to make things gluten free with as little risk of cross-contamination possible. Because it's not a dedicated gluten-free place, there is some risk, and I definitely got sick a couple of times, but we're talking maybe twice in 40 times of ordering from them. I'll take those odds. Plus, the food is good and plentiful for an incredibly reasonable price that's very hard to beat in Portland. It's not gourmet, but it's not aiming to be. If you want that Chinese comfort food experience, this is it. No pretension, no gimmick - just tasty, affordable Chinese eats.They're currently closed due to COVID-19, and it's not clear if they'll reopen. I sincerely hope they do, though - if they don't, Portland will have lost something truly special. If they DO open again and you haven't had a chance to try them out, I strongly recommend you give them a try.

I have been going here since I was a young child. 53 years later it is the same as when I was young. Consistently delicious American style Chinese food. The egg rolls are unique and amazing. The ham fried rice is epic. Everything is delicious.

My last two delivery orders through Postmates were wrong. First time got sweet and sour chicken instead of fried shrimp. Second time I got sweet and sour short ribs instead of egg foo young. When I called canton grill I was told I ordered something different, but when I checked my online ordered, I saw I hadn’t. No more orders to canton grill.

The staff was friendly and service was great. Food was awful. Beef fried rice was very sulfuric. Sweet and sour chicken was marginal at best.

The food is always good and plenty. They have a mini combo section where you can choose three items for $8.75. I got pork fried rice, bbq pork and sesame chicken. The staff are very friendly and good at checking in to make sure things are ok. I've been going here for over 15 years and have never had a bad e experience...... Definitely a must try....
We have been going here for years. The food is always good (takeout not so much), always hot and fresh, and Irenie, the owner, is a real sweetheart. Our go to Chinese when we are in the area. Good people!

Their deep fried mushrooms are the best! Good food at a great price. Their portions are very large, we always leave with enough leftovers for another meal.

The girlfriend treated me to this place 5 has great food, clean restaurants, and clean bathrooms. She told me she's been coming here for years. THe family has owned this place for over 75 years and keeps it going with their family and it's amazing. I know if your in the area that you should for sure try this place out. They have a bar too, but I didn't take but one picture of that. They have another room for parties or what ever. They had a group back there so no pictures. It is huge area though.

First time @ Canton Grill, really enjoyed the time my husband and I spent there. The bartender on duty was amazing. He did a great job of keeping up with everyone. Drinks are great & prices are decent, the food was wonderful, portions & prices are decent for the food as well. This establishment has been around since 1944(happy 75th)! We will be a repeat customer for sure!

Normally I liked it here a lot more than I did tonight but there were over 20 people in our group on a Sunday evening. The food came reasonably fast am mine was tasty but it was cold which kinda ruined it for me.
