With all due respect, it was not their best coffee day

Super cute spot that was decorated in a really fun way for Valentine's day. We ended up stuck in Portland for Vday after a canceled flight and were delighted to happen upon Cheryl's. The complimentary beignets were unbelievably good and definitely the highlight for me! The huevos rancheros with chorizo were tasty if a little bit generic. The crab Benedict left quite a bit to be desired for me and I'd probably give it a pass in the future. They brought a sample of their Portuguese fried rice which was delicious and probably what I'd lean towards on a future visit. Overall a fun spot and a nice way to start making lemonade from the lemons of our canceled trip.

For some reason huevos rancheros came on soft flour tortillas instead of tostada's. Food was okay overall. The place was decorated for Valentine's Day but I wouldn't take a date here because it was too loud for intimate conversation.

Honestly, I don’t know how this place got high reviews. The service is good but the food is max a 3 out of 5 - and that’s if you’re starving. Maybe cuz I’m accustomed to NYC food or real Latino food? Maybe my experience and expectations are higher but I would say skip this place. Sorry 😞

I really hope I‘m not alone in thinking that the classic American breakfast is one of the last greasy shining beacons of hope in our crumbling, dystopian society. Something about the stability and predictability about what’s on your plate feels especially poignant right now, and it couldn’t be better exemplified than with eggs, bacon, and a side of buttered toast. My out-of-town houseguest and I, during the recent snow event, had a yearning to relieve our cabin fever with diner drip coffee & scrambled eggs, and as such, brunch beckoned and we, but mere paupers replied affirmatively.
Our search first led us to the tried and true mainstay The Daily Feast, behind the Central Library, but it was closed, likely due to the snowstorm. Desperate, we wandered into Cheryl’s on 12th, put our names down and smoked a cigarette while walking around the block to pass the 20 minute long wait. I had high hopes for this classic Portland institution, but was ultimately bitterly disappointed. The breakfast burrito ($16) was dry and flavorless with nothing more than chewy potato bits and unsalted scrambled eggs, and did not even come with fresh salsa or hot sauce to drown out blandness. My friend’s poached eggs Benny, with a rubbery piece of Canadian ham topped with a thick, viscous hollandaise sauce ($20) didn’t redeem the meal, though it was a valiant, applaudable attempt. The included side, cheesy hash browns with frosted flake crumb topping tasted like something a midwestern mother makes her picky 5 year old. Even the English breakfast black tea ($4) was a bit bizarre, oddly pairing local teamaker Steven Smith with a side of Smucker’s honey. The free beignets and decent enough coffee were a nice touch, however.
Dining here made me feel like it was a place you’d take your ailing grandmother to so she can get her bland, pale hospital food ration. Perhaps take someone here if they have flavor sensitivities, but otherwise I’d steer clear.

Kinda mid food but for very not so mid prices. The quantities were okay. I felt this place was hyped for no reason. Not gonna lie but the free Beignets got me to increase one star haha.

My sausage was warmed in the microwave, gross.
Bread was toasted to such hardness that it wasn't eaten.
Our mocha and latte tasted burnt absolutely no chocolate or coconut& Carmel taste .
Over priced for basic food/cooking

I do think it's odd they have indian, Mexican, and other options . The prices are kind of insane. The French toast didn't even have much flavor . I really find the food mediocre for the price. The service was nice. There were cool options. I also realized that the chai latte was from a box and it was arguably the worst one I've ever had

Horrible “food”, unless you like tasteless hard breakfast sandwiches out of the microwave.
