Go for the food, will far outweigh the bland interior. Very good Sichuan. Rivals the temporarily closed Taste of Sichuan.

This might be the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. Was in town for a week, ate here twice, plan to go back for more next week! I tried the BBQ pork, general tsos chicken and prawns, and broccoli sauteed in garlic sauce, made spicy. Everything was quality ingredients and perfectly prepared, even the rice was perfection. The service is friendly and fast, the place is old but updated and cute. I wish I lived here so I could go all the time! There's a bar in the back but I didn't go in, I can't tell if it's related or not. Convenient parking too.

Chiam had the best chicken chow mein, with pan fried noodles in Portland, Now they are so bad i had to get a refund, no chicken could be seen, and Top Ramen taste better, i think the new owners are stingy or dont know good food, I wish they would tell me where the old Chef is working, so i can go there

If you're a fan of spicy, flavorful food, Hometown Taste Restaurant is worth checking out.It seems the chefs from the former Taste of Sechuan have landed here, and they've brought their delicious recipes with them. The space is small, and the atmosphere isn't anything special, but the food more than makes up for it.Be prepared for generous portions and dishes with a real kick!

Former location of Chiam, a long-standing old-school American-style Chinese joint. New owners have kept some of the old American-style staples while adding a completely new more traditional menu on top of it. We ordered both styles and the food was uniformly excellent, particularly the Sichuan braised prawns. Staff was on point and respectful of food allergies at the table, and service was top notch start to finish. Compares favorably to local heavyweight Taste of Sichuan - I look very much forward to my next visit.
Authentic taste, price is right. Nicely decorated inside and attentive service.

Highly recommend this Restaurant. It's not the kind of place where they smile and yell, welcome welcome! There is no warm and fuzzy feeling here at all---But ...... the food is absolutely fantasticand very fresh and well prepared !I will be going back here again and again I am certain.

Absolutely awesome. Ordered Shanghai dumplings, kung pow chicken and pork in hot garlic sauce. Recommend all of them. Wish we'd tried it sooner!

We went here, when it was Chiam, for 20+ years. Always loved the food, great quality, great portions, BBQ appetizer, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Steak Kew Chow Mein w/extra Pan-fried noodles, Shrimp & Scallop Kew Chow Mein, Mar Far Chicken, Sesame Chicken, General Tso's chicken, all were excellent. When we got it To-Go, it was put into the white cardboard like boxes which kept the food warm.
Now this place has bad food and puts it in plastic containers that doesn't keep the food warm. The portions are small, the food is not good and the prices are ridiculous. Will not return.
Great food! Will be coming back.
