Everyone has three weeks (as of this review) to go get their fill of this INCREDIBLE Mexican street food! The owner told me that she’s closing permanently June 29th. I cannot recommend enough getting here at least once before they close! What a treat this place has been.
This place on Alberta is so good and the owner who was taking our order is incredibly kind. It’s overwhelming (in a good way) to go in a restaurant and not know what to choose because you can eat all of it. Everything was delicious, but I loved the 2 kinds of jackfruit tacos. Great fresh margaritas too. Updated from previous review on 2025-06-07
The food here was outstanding, really good value and the lady was so friendly - cannot recommend this place and the area enough
Creative and flavorful, just wow.
Wow, top notch food! Great service and right next to a brewery! What more can you ask for?!? All home made and tasty!
Chilangos is so amazing! I love their taco bowl and horchata!

Delicious authentic Mexican food, lovely space and very friendly staff. I had the pleasure of talking to the owner of the restaurant Vanessa and I could tell how much love she puts into the business and how passionate she is about it. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. Extremely kind and amazing people.

Went here for the first and last time recently. Guacamole is excellent, and that's the extent of positives. The salsa sampler didnt have a red salsa - at all. Salsa being a quintessential vegan food, I cannot imagine how a restaurant in this vein doesnt have a single salsa típica on the sampler.
Food, and I mean all food from tacos to bowls to tostadas arrives in a manner I can only describe as "gooped." Everything just slathered in sauces that only add messiness. Single tortillas on laden tacos just sad. The jackfruit carnitas-style protein was the only passable option of the four available.
Lastly, and most truly damning, being a "vegan" establishment should reflect a level of compassion for people, animals, and the environment in which we live. Everything was served in disposable plastic or paper plates. It was very sad.
Inside ambience is not cohesive or warm. Staff didnt inform us of items that were unavailable when we picked up menus. Forks were not present in the silverware self service area, and when staff was informed of this, the first thing they did was walk over to the silverware area and look.
I give this two stars after several days of reflection. It seems obvious there are some fans of this establishment but it misses so hard. At a minimum, a restaurant should exceed my personal capacity to cook and I assure you I could make vegan street tacos that would be fresh, visually appeealing, and include fresh cilantro, red onion, and cabbage, not gooped together tan sauces.
Chil, an go elsewhere.

Totally phenomenal tacos. I tried all 4 guisados available and each was distinct and delicious. My partner had the flautas with rice and beans and loved them. We are omnivore taco snobs and agreed that this was some of the best food we’ve eaten recently. Of any kind. I wish more vegan restaurants were honoring ingredients and making vegetables delicious instead of trying to make things “just like meat.”
Also, the margaritas are super good. We tried the classic and guava-both great!

Seriously delicious food, the Sope with Chorizo Con Papas was just loaded with savory and hearty flavors. Wonderful and friendly staff, amazing horchatas, we tried both the iced and the hot versions and both were so good.
Do you love mexican food but could do without the lard and chicken stock used in beans and rice just about everywhere? This is the place. Been here twice now and my standing complaint is that I live 40 minutes away. Bittersweet though really because I would rarely cook having this place close by. The food and service are outstanding. Kid approved and all. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who to me, was a shining example of how to be with your patrons. She was accommodating, lively and relatable. A light in the community, truly. Be sure to check out their Instagram as well to keep up with the day to day news. Thank you Chilango crew, see you soon.

Chilango is the best vegan Mexican food restaurant in Portland! It is consistently the place I crave. I think about it almost every day, especially those ooey, gooey, melty quesadillas that are so dang good they made me forget about real cheese. My other favorites are the tofu tacos, chips & beans, and of course, a side of the spiciest hot sauce (it may have peanuts in it? Idk, but it is some flavor combo I have never and before and I am obsessed!). But you can't go wrong with any of the tacos! All of the tortillas and fillings/meat substitutes taste and feel homemade - it is not like they take packaged stuff and throw some sauce on it. Everything is made with love! Just as everyone else has commented, the owner is a gem and it feels good to support her and her mission to bring the vegan version of her Mexico City culture to Portland.
Vegetarian options: It is all vegan and will make you forget about real dairy!
Dietary restrictions: They have vegan and gluten-free options and they are delicious!
Kid-friendliness: The menu has the option to order individual items that would be well-suited to children. The atmosphere is open with metal chairs.
Wheelchair accessibility: It is wheelchair accessible. All of the tables have individual chairs that can be moved or there is usually space where someone could roll up to the side of a table. Ordering is counter-service and the counter may be a bit high for wheelchair users, but the staff is very friendly and would accommodate you how they can.
