Common Grounds Coffeehouse

I came here super excited to try one of their speciality lattes, however after viewing their 3 menus I noticed they don’t have a specific section for them. So I came inside bc coffee shops usually have a chalkboard with lattes of the month or just the specialty ones - there wasn’t any here. So i kindly asked the barista what the specialty lattes where and she rudely pointed at the menu and said everything was there, and then tried to leave the order counter. She had to make two lattes before whatever my order could have been. it was NOT SUPER busy (i came in around 8PM!) The menu inside STILL did not have a section for specialty lattes so i had to ask CHATGPT for specialty lattes i could order at this place. AI was able to give me a few suggestions and i went with the the spicy dirty chai which was great. But why did it have to happen this way? The barista could’ve kindly said “i’m sorry we don’t have any specialty lattes or drinks of the month” but instead I got a look and quick, rude reply. I added a screenshot of what chatgpt suggested (what the barista could have suggested). Another weird thing I noticed was that despite I order my drink TOGO it was given it to me without a lid and since it was my first time here i didn’t know where to get it from or the straw. AND when i asked WHERE the straws were she pointed to where they were in a way that let me know how i was INCONVENIENCING HER.. like OKAY. great coffee but bad vibe.

Might be my favorite Portland coffee shop. Love that it's open late! They have great chai and the Peanut Butter Noreo is so good?

I cannot say enough about this coffee shop. Super menu of baked goods and paninis and delightful espresso. Good quality oat milk when I dont want dairy. Good vibe. Nice location. Keep doing what you're doing. Highly recommend the oat milk latte with easy vanilla. They even had a button for easy vanilla and it was so good.

No longer going here after they ruined their feng shui. The tables are oddly placed, it now feels cramped and inhospitable. Especially egregious are the couches and chairs that are eye level with the tables that in front of them.

The space is clearly now designed to feel uncomfy and to prevent people from staying for too long. If they need more business and need a better flow of customers, that's completely understandable. But at that point, just raises the prices by .50 cents. Common grounds is one of the few coffee shops that fostered a community feel, such a shame that they changed their layout to feel so awkward.

My friends and I aren't coming back until it's back to the previous layout.

One of my favorites in Portland. Such a fun little coffee shop. I love their logo. Really good paninis as well

They just reorganized tables and chairs, clearly in a way to make it more difficult to plug in a laptop. That's their prerogative of course, but coffee-shop shoppers should know.

Nice place for quick breakfast. Foods great , drinks great.

bangggggin breakfast paninis - highly recommend getting two (1 classic, 1 hawthorne), doing a half half split with someone to get the full flavor range. fun local art on walls too, goood vibe

This place used to be amazing it had nice and sweet employees,
The pastries were delicious and the smell when you entered the door naturally had coffee aroma and it never was too nauseating plus, it was the one place that had decent coldbrew but when the new owner changed stuff it wasn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong change is natural but MY WORD this place now is just terrible I’m sorry it just is I would recommend nossa familia coffee and or province.

The owner had the bicycle parking out front removed to be replaced by a single parking spot. This is despite the fact that research and community outreach the has time and time again shown that bicycle and pedestrian supporting infrastructure benefits business. I find this to be very disappointing of the business and to me shows that they ultimately value capital gains over the quality of life of their customers.

The shop itself may have a vibe, but it’s proven to be all for show when actions like this are taken. Besides, their coffee really isn’t that good to begin with.
