Coq à Vin feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. It’s the kind of true farm-to-table experience that reminds you of those European countryside excursions — the ones hosted in a monastery, on a farm, or in someone’s own kitchen — where every detail carries a story.

The duck was absolutely beautiful: buttery, tender, and cooked with real care. The pâté was another standout — homemade and paired with a jam made right on their farm, which was so fresh and bright it completely elevated the dish. The pappardelle was delicate and clearly crafted with intention; I just wished for a bit more flavor depth, though its freshness still shone through.

Not every dish was my personal favorite, but the craftsmanship and intention behind each were clear.

The wine pairing, though, tied everything together — possibly the best in Portland. Each pour felt deliberate and truly enhanced the dishes, turning the meal into something special. It was super generous too, you could take as much as you wanted out of the bottle.

While $300 before tip for two felt a bit steep for how many dishes I personally loved solely based on taste, but it did feel justified by the overall experience — intimate, sincere, and clearly made with heart.

Incredible experience! The people here are so lovely and the food was phenomenal. This is a very special and unique dining experience, I haven’t seen anything else like it in Portland. The food just kept on coming, and each course George made was more fabulous than the last. And the wine pairing Rose picked out to go with each course matched it so perfectly. Plus they shared stories all about what had inspired them to build this restaurant and their menus as they have. It was so charming and special to be able to connect with them and hear their inspiration!

Plus I kept raving about this place so much that my parents had to go too. They went for their anniversary this year, and were not disappointed! They’ve since sent many of their friends because it is truly that special!

Honestly feel it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Portland, paired with the sweetest and most unique experience of small room dining, with wonderful hosts! Can’t wait to be back!

Coq au Vin exceeded all of our expectations. The chef/owner, George, prepared a meal that was fresh, thoughtful and seasonal. Rose curates a wine pairing that compliments the menu without overpowering it. The prices reflect the quality of ingredients (sourced from the farm and garden), the creativity of the menu, and the seamless service. George & Rose exude warmth--no pretension, just a sincere wish to ensure you have a memorable night.

Portland’s hidden gem. I would love to keep it all to myself but Rose and George deserve all the praise I can muster. One of the most unique and satisfying culinary experiences I’ve ever had.

You can’t find a more unique dining experience in Portland. I’ve never had a dinner like it. Every bite was delicious and it feels like you have a private chef. I’d recommend it for a special occasion, romantic dinner or group catchup.

What do you get when you combine PNW farm-to-table authenticity with French fine dining? Coq Au Vin! My partner and I had a truly beautiful experience at this unique homestyle restaurant. Vintage decor and Rose's exquisite wine pairings made this 5 course meal a divine gastronomic adventure into chef George's wonderful vision of locally sourced French cuisine. Loved the family vibes of getting to know their children as well! Highly recommended for a romantic dinner for two ❤️

This is a family run restaurant offering some of the most delicious, sophisticated food I've ever enjoyed. (Family run as in the family lives on site and the kids wander through while you're eating.) The fixed price menu varies with the season/ day, and all of it is delicious. An experience not to be missed!

Four of us celebrated a couple birthdays. Only folks there, so lots of attention -- including from owners' charming kids. First time I've encountered such an intimate setting for a great meal, but I keep reminding myself NFP (normal for Portland). But the food starred. Five courses, plus amuse bouche and dessert. Most memorable and inspiring were the duck quenelle and rabbit ragout pasta. Insert your own superlatives here. And go taste for yourself.

This was off the chain! The food was amazing, every dish was cooked to perfection. On top of that, the wine pairings were absolutely SPOT ON and the introduction and stories behind the sourcing of every ingredient - and even the dishes used - make this one of the most outstanding dining experiences. Most importantly, the ambience is incomparable. You are having some serious cuisine without the pretentious atmosphere. The best part of this dining experience are Rose, George and their 4 lovely children. It is wholesome and every detail well thought through and just delightful.

We had an amazing experience with the five course dinner at Coq au Vin yesterday night. Probably the best overall dinner we had in Portland for the past 20 years. Every single dish was excellent (duck liver pâté & cheese gougère, cassoulet, quenelles en soupe, pasta, duck confit with its purée, almond financier with its home-made gelato). The wine pairing was perfect. Rose, the hostess, and George, the chef, were delightful. I highly recommend it!
