The pretzel was very fresh, with a light crust on the outside and soft inside. The cheese and mustard dip was really good-the cheese was warm and smooth, and the mustard had a mild kick. A tasty dish!

Really cool vibe and in a great location. My only critic was that the grilled cheese portion size was massive! Dont love having to carry around leftovers during a day in the city.

Came in (on a Weds evening) for drinks and appetizers in the bar and left very disappointed with the service. We were pretty much ignored (high top table in the bar), then watched (no lie) three separate people come in, sit down at the bar, wait to order, then leave without ever having ordered after being ignored. The place was NOT EVEN BUSY! Not sure if this is the standard for Deschutes, but it left us with a bad impression of the bar staff. Hopefully this is not an indication of their normal service bit given their lack of attention, I don't think they care much.

This was an extremely disappointing experience. We saw this brewery across the street when we went to Backwoods a few weeks ago and were excited to come back and try Deschutes. It started off on the wrong foot when we arrived and the host recommended for us sit in the bar area. We proceeded to sit at the bar for 5 minutes as the bartender walked by numerous times without greeting or even acknowledging us. Later, we found out there was another bartender who was running late making us question why the host even encouraged us to sit there in the first place. After that, we had to restart at the host stand and ask to be seated at a table instead. We waited again for over 5 minutes at the table before being acknowledged. When someone finally did come over to us they quickly dropped off water and said “In case you’re thirsty, here’s some water” and didn’t return for another 5 minutes. She was our server, but she didn’t greet us or introduce herself, so we’re not sure what her name is, but she was wearing an orange beanie the whole time. When she asked for our drink order, I asked a question about their sour and she wasn’t super confident about the answer, so she offered a sample, which I appreciated. My girlfriend ordered the cider and the pretzel to start. The pretzel arrived surprisingly quickly, but the cider and my sample took over 15 minutes so we finished our appetizer before even getting our drinks. At this point, I was confused so I looked around for our server and noticed her behind the bar. She must have noticed me because after that she brought our drinks and immediately made the excuse that she was helping to fill in behind the bar. Normally, we wouldn’t mind, but she had 3 tables and the bar was not busy. Looking around, it seemed like we were the only ones being neglected. When she dropped off the cider and my sample, I confirmed I wanted the sour and she took our food order. Other than to drop off the drink and one quick pass by, she did not stop at our table again until we were finished. We had been craving burgers for a while and were disappointed by how average they were. I got the BBQ Pork Belly burger which was smaller than expected and surprisingly dry despite looking juicy. My fries were too salty (which is surprising because I love salt), and they must’ve been a little stale because the last few were rock solid. My girlfriend got the black bean and quinoa burger and the garlic fries which were $2 extra. The burger was extremely dry despite having sauce on the focaccia bread bun and the fries came out cold with the cheese unmelted. We didn’t take it too personally, until the end. I guess the other bartender arrived because the next table she got, which was next to ours, she quickly greeted enthusiastically and gave them her undivided attention while answering questions, making recommendations, and taking their order. Overall, this may be the worst service we’ve ever experienced and honestly the food was kind of disappointing. Despite there being other drinks and food we wanted to try, we definitely will not be going back.

A shell of a great brewery, now the bartender pours every beer while touching the rim if the glass you drink from, even when slow. Cocktail, beer, wine, even samples or not safe from a finger in your glass like a dive bar. I want to taste beer, not the credit card if the person before me.

The fish and chips were cooked last an inch of their life and then 2 inches more. Portion control brought out 1.25oz ramekins of ketchup at a time to ensure the corporate bar feel.

Beer was great, do better for your beer and your guests! The pours and service felt like Applebee's. A pour of Abyss should not have you bartenders touching the rim of the glass.

Ordering using the QR code took a little figuring out, but service was very good and great food.

The poutine was just OK. They need to add pocked 9 ions and pickled jalapenos as standard and allow you to take them off if you don't like them. Also, the best poutine I have had has braised beef or pulled pork or some sort of meat to balance all the flavors.

The beer was very good. I tried their reserve stuff and their bourbon barrel aged beer and they were pretty good - all of them.

The artichoke dip was awesome! But my fish and chips were undercooked, and the fish was hard as a rock. It was not flaky at all.
It was too loud for comfortable conversation, and the tables were too close together to move comfortably.

Our service was top-notch, and everyone was very friendly and sweet.

I have been in to Deschutes a couple of times over the years while in Portland on business. I have always raved about how much I love this place! Unfortunately my recent visit couldn’t have been any more disappointing. The food just wasn’t what it used to be and that was disappointing. But what really stood out to me and truthfully made this an awful experience from the jump, was the very rude and dismissive host. Upon arriving we were not greeted but glared at by the older gentleman behind the desk. We watched as he rudely spoke to the young ladies seating people and continued to ignore not all, but what felt like the minority of the female guests. When he finally addressed me he was passive and just overall unfriendly and disgruntled. Once seated he didn’t say a word and threw the menus down on the table. Luckily our server was our saving grace and was incredibly kind, but still an unpleasant experience.

Service here is awesome and a very family friendly brewery. They have TVs everywhere playing sports of any type. They also have plenty of seating so it’s always a spot that’s unassuming and available for you.

The beers are tasty and they offer their entire selection for you to have, so you can’t go wrong with that.

The food is a bit salty, big portions though. The garlic fries are drenched with cheese and a white garlic sauce that was on the artificial side.

Overall, a good spot to hang out, catch the game, bring the family, or relax after a night out.

I've been to Deschutes several times and in general I've always been pleased with the food and service. It's also great if you have small children, because they have a nice kid play area.
However, I recently got to try their brunch menu and was sorely disappointed in their “smoked salmon“ Benedict. Nothing about the salmon seemed smoked. It tasted and looked more like a piece of boiled or steamed salmon filet. It was on a lack luster English muffin that was served straight out of the bag. I would expect at least toasted and hopefully buttered. Then the cold fishy salmon, poached egg (which luckily was cooked perfectly) and a ton of hollandaise sauce, which also tasted fine. But the overall effect was like a Sisco food cafeteria had created it not a respectable Portland brewery. It was mostly cold with the bread and fish. The menu description and price, $21, made me imagine something a little more extra. While I would still recommend this brewery for dinner and beers, I can not recommend their brunch.
