Always a great experience, this was our first time at the pioneer square location but it did not disappoint! The XLB’s are the staple ofcourse, but the pork chop fried rice and spicy wontons are delightful as well. Our kids love it, and the staff was extremely patient and kind.
To finish off the night we had the chocolate dumplings which are our absolute favorite! But we got the salted whip cream on our waiters recommendation and we will never order them without it again. 10/10!
Made for a great bday dinner for my wife.
Kid-friendliness: Staff is very kind and patient

This was my first time attending this location, and I enjoyed it. The service and food were both excellent! Every person smiled and greeted us promptly. Our waitress did such a great job keeping the flow of food that we ordered going well. We all left happy with full bellies.

Food was good, but our experience was ruined by server Gabe. He was very rude during our time there. We made a reservation ahead of time to meet for a drink and light food before a concert. The rest of the staff was very kind. However, Gabe was rude and judgy. He kept asking us why we were in a rush, when we weren't in a rush at all, and it made us feel like we needed to leave. We would have ordered more drinks or food, but he very clearly did not want to serve our table. The restaurant was 60% empty AND we had a reservation so it wasn't like they should have tried to turn our table within 45 minutes. It was uncomfortable and I don't think I'll be back to this location because of it.

Service was fine but food was really subpar for the price. Both me and my guest got food poisoning the same night… I remember making some comments on the Hot and Sour soup not being hot when served to us… but the pork buns also were a bit off (very thick and doughy, inside not as hot as you’d expect). We also had sodas which tasted like they were from a bar gun vs a good soda tap, even though they were $4 each. So who knows what dish did us in but this was the only shared meal we had and both of us were throwing up 6 hours after dinner. Maybe make sure to go on a popular day with a lot of turn over, we went on a Tuesday night.
We were also seated near the mall hallway which made us feel like we were in a food court vs spending nearly $100 on a dinner for 2. Overall, will not be back.

We were here on a Saturday night, please make reservations because it gets super busy. We initially went to the other location and they had a 2.5 hour wait. The servers were nice, but we felt a bit rushed towards the end of our meal like they couldn’t wait for us to leave. We ate fairly fast and were just finishing through our last plate when they came to ask if we were all done when we were clearly still making our way through the meal.
We got the steamed pork buns, pork XLB, garlic string beans, spicy wontons, shrimp noodles and fried rice.
We loved everything, except for the shrimp noodles which were pretty mediocre. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the beans were & highly recommend! Pork XLB did not disappoint and the fried rice was delicious too ??

We were really looking forward to finally being able to eat at Din Tai Fung again after five years. And in the end we were a little disappointed.
The quality is still very high and most of the dishes tasted great. We only remembered the vegetarian dumplings better and the stir fried wok noodles could have used a little more sauce.
The prices have also been increased significantly: $15 for the green beans with garlic and $16 for 10 vegetarian dumplings. Even though we still thought it was good, it was quite expensive fun.

I generally avoid chain restaurants, but I've eaten at two Din Tai Fung restaurants (the other in Seattle) and both were fantastic. Whatever system they've worked out in the kitchen to produce delicious and consistent food, it's working.
Atmosphere is sedate, but it's perfect for a date night or a get together with friends, and I would gladly go again if I found myself dragged back to the mall for some reason.

The green beans are amazing and absolutely love the pork dial long bao.

Highlights: ribs, string beans, spicy pot stickers, pork fried rice. And when I say highlights, I'd gladly eat 2 plates of each for the next month or two and nothing else. Really tasty food and hope to find a location closer to home.

I recommend making reservation so you don’t have to wait. We got there and right to our table.
•Food was delicious, so fresh. Dumplings made to order.
•Crowded restaurant but that’s okay, we were seated on a corner.
•Fast service and friendly waiter.
•100% Recommended.

A new Din Tai Fung in downtown Portland. It’s in the basement floor of frontier square so not much view can be expected. Their food is great, the same as any other Ding Tai Fung in anywhere in the world. Since I stopped to try to force myself to eat meat, they have many options for vegetable dishes. One thing is that they use lard in the fried rice and I can’t eat it with the lard smell. I should be asking them next time if they can use vegetable based oil for my fried rice.
After receiving a response from the owner, since they don’t use any lard, it must be something else. I will try the fried rice again.
