I used to LOVE east side deli. It was almost the only place I would eat out when I lived near the Hawthorne location. You could spend like 10 bucks and have 3 meals worth of food. Now? Awful. Just straight up awful. 12 bucks for a BBQ sandwich that they couldn’t even be bothered to put some BBQ sauce on. Bread had the consistency of an sponge. Avoid this place. The quality has fallen off a cliff. Plenty of other great places to eat in this city. Don’t waste your money here

They could use some vegan cheese options plus the add on system seemed nonsensical as certain sandwiches seemed like they have unlimited alterations accepted while others weren't allowed to change much. Also, I get that it's mostly a to go place but I prefer to eat in and not be as wasteful and they offer limited, kind of uncomfortable seating.
Great sandwich, love coming here because I can get all the weird ingredients (tuna, sauerkraut, horseradish, olives, pickles, etc.) and it’s always good.
However, I hadn’t been since before COVID, and was disappointed to see just how expensive things have gotten. My sandwich cost $14.50. Just for a sandwich. No drinks, no chips, no tip, literally just a sandwich.
They also removed indoor dining altogether, and even ordering is done through a self serve iPad out front. Very impersonal. No charm, expensive sandwiches, no indoor eating… Not sure if I’ll ever be able to justify the price enough to come back here, unfortunately.

Updated review.
Portion sizes have become extremely small here even though sandwich prices keep rising. There is also no option to request extra protein.
They close at 630, online and in person. Not 7. You cannot place an order on or after 630.
This town need more of this!!!! Everything I’ve had here has been spot on!!!
I just ordered from here on Doordash. I got the Eastside Italian on sourdough. I cannot believe this! First, upon opening the wrap, I see the biggest sourdough sandwich I have ever seen! I had to cut it in fourths! Secondly and most importantly, this was one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever had as well! Thank you Eastside! Well done!
Ordered a BLT and got to strips of bacon the tomatoes were thick and no lettuce and no sauce at 13 dollars
Reliably fast, fresh, and delicious! Just wish they had inside seating.

Some of my favorite sandwiches in Portland!
The food is great but the customer service is terrible. The girl with black hair at the counter is so rude, didn’t even say one word to me when I came to pick up my sandwich, couldn’t even be bothered to look up from her phone. If you hate your job, maybe find another one?
I love not having to deal with people by using the Kiosk it’s an awesome takeout spot and the sandwiches were really delicious!
Parking: They have a parking lot with 10ish spaces

What has happened??? This USED to be the best place to get a great NY style stacked Deli sandwich for a fair price…NOT ANYMORE. The sandwiches are now mostly dry bread, no pickle on the side and $12+.
The ingredients on the sandwich are also subpar. Also, the way they do business with the customer now is very off putting. Literally no contact and half the time the kiosk doesn’t work. I ordered by phone, but when I went to pick up (no delivery available) people were having issues with the kiosk. All of it just comes across as being very hands off by the owner which doesn’t jive with best business practices. I’ve tried East Side I really have…but I’m callin it quits.

The weakest, most low effort sandwich I’ve ever purchased. I got a BLTA and they use the absolute cheapest, lowest quality bacon I’ve ever seen. Think Midwest motel breakfast buffet bacon. The prepackaged sandwich from a gas station is better than this.
Then, for the outrageous prices they’re charging, they don’t even give you chips or a pickle! Not even a GD pickle! At least a pickle would have provided some sort of flavor.
There are too many great sandwiches in this town for a place of this caliber to stay in business. Go give one of them your business. Not East Side Deli. ?
