I had the pleasure of dining at El GauchoI last night, and overall, it was an excellent experience. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. The atmosphere was equally impressive—stylish and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed, yet sophisticated dinner.
The only hiccup in the evening was that my steak arrived cold, likely due to being held too long before it was brought to the table. It was a minor disappointment, especially given how much I had been looking forward to it. Tableside service for the Cesar salad and the baked potato was awesome.
After dinner, we were moved to the cigar lounge, where we had a fantastic time enjoying a cigar and an after-dinner drink. The lounge was the perfect way to wind down the evening, adding an extra special touch to the experience.
Overall, a memorable night with great food, service, and atmosphere, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience.

Last night, my wife and I celebrated my birthday at El Gaucho, and as always, it was an unforgettable experience. Julie was amazing, just like every time — she helped set up my reservation, greeted us warmly when we arrived, and personally walked us to our reserved table.
Our server, Mathisen, was outstanding from start to finish. He knew the menu inside and out, offered spot-on recommendations, and delivered impeccable service throughout the evening.
Between the live music, phenomenal food, and the welcoming atmosphere, it reminded me why El Gaucho is my favorite restaurant in Portland. It’s our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries, and every special occasion. I’m already looking forward to our next visit.

We had reservations but it took 30 minutes to be seated. The staff was very good! But gratuity is already included in the bill.

We were in town for our annual girls' trip and chose El Gaucho for our fancy dinner night. We had Michael C. as our server, and we can’t say enough great things about him! He made our experience truly unforgettable with his engaging conversation, attentive service, and genuine kindness. The food was phenomenal, but it was the exceptional service that really made the night stand out.

Great steak , good atmosphere
Best Vietnamese food I’ve had in a long time. The combo bowl let me try a bit of everything, and it all hit the spot.

The wine was not what I expected. The flavor wasn't quite right. We experienced some delays with our order and the happy hour menu listed on the internet was non existent apparently since pre covid per management. We ordered a Coca Cola and a house white wine total bill $42. My colleague and walked to the Portland City grill and were treated with better service respect and pricing over all.
cigar lounge is nice and cozy. they have good sticks and great customer service.
