Thank you all for an epic evening with the Bowers family! You all did amazing!! The food and service were epic!!
We came here for a nightcap and a snack. The calamari was delicious and crispy and the Oaxacan old fashioned I had was amazing. Bright and spirit forward. The host and bartender were all so attentive and friendly.
Festive steakhouse in the historic Benson Hotel....but with sky high prices. For the most part, there are better choices. I don't order a steak there anymore. $75+ is silly. But their salads are great. The table side Caesar salad might just redefine your opinion of a Caesar. Lovely live Spanish guitars is a major plus. Be very careful what you order at the bar. My Manhattan was $32. If you ask for any substitution your drinks can cost as much as your meal. Ruth Chris and Ringside are a far better value for my money. Last night’s dinner at El Gaucho Portland was honestly one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, it felt like the entire room was there to take care of us—not just our fantastic waiter, Dennis (who was phenomenal, by the way), but everyone. The service was next-level; you’re truly treated like royalty.
We started with the escargot and oysters—both were fresh, perfectly prepared, and absolutely delicious. For our main courses, she had the 6oz filet (which was buttery and tender), and I went for the A5 wagyu. I don’t say this lightly: the wagyu was unreal. Melt-in-your-mouth, packed with flavor, and cooked to absolute perfection.
The scalloped potatoes were creamy, cheesy, and the perfect side for both steaks. What really made the night stand out, though, was the wine. Dennis took the time to make sure our wine was perfectly matched not just to our food, but to our individual palates—seriously, the pairings were spot on.
Everything about El Gaucho Portland screams classic steakhouse luxury, but with a warmth and attention to detail that makes you feel completely at home. If you want an unforgettable meal and impeccable service, this is the spot. Just wow, wow, wow.
Food was phenomenal 😋
What can I say about El Gaucho that hasn't already been said about Bill Clinton's White House? Important Lewis & Clark College alums get into trouble there, and you'll be shocked by what they're doing with the cigars.
This place is one of the top-three best steakhouses that Portland has to offer. Highly recommend. Excellent food, impeccable service, perfect atmosphere.
Amazing place best in Portland, service, staff, food is all outstanding! Checkout the bar inside the hotel for after dinner drinks.
This place is always consistent and never disappoints. The wait staff is amazing and the atmosphere is fantastic! We go on the regular and are never disappointed.
Best in the city
I would honestly give this 12/10 stars. This was by far the BEST meal and service we have ever gotten. This is truly a dining experience, not just a meal.

Friendly staff, incredibly good food. It is a little dark, but that’s okay. The baseball 10oz cut is pretty good for the price. Oysters came out perfect. Their wine choices are vast and good.
It was such an honor to be served by Douglas Musgrove. I have enjoyed his service over the years and I’m saddened to see him retired.
Yet another outstanding meal at El Gaucho! We were seated near the live music, but wanted to talk. We requested and were ushered to a quiet corner booth. The tableside Caesar, oysters, steak and crab: amazing.
Wonderful service for our family and many attempts to make our Sons 24th birthday special. Thank you!
This place never disappoints. Food and service is impeccable. I don't think I ever git something I didn't like but I'm very impressive with the peppered strip steak. Warning, it's a lot of black pepper, so much that it's crunchy on the outside. If you're lactose intolerant, skip the scallop potatoes. Thr caesar salad was delicious and surprisingly very filling.
