Another win, for Benny the Barista! This dreary night on Sat is instantly flipped, by this amazing Americano!

I found a nice cozy spot near the window (recommend!) to settle up and do some reading and drawing. You can't go wrong! Visit Benny at Freshpot next to Powells books on Hawthorne. Well worth it!

sometimes they serve you seeping loose leaf tea in a pint glass. Wows me every time

A friendly spot. I had some work to do and was able to hang out for awhile and drink some good coffee. Power available, food looked good, quiet spot next to Powells on Hawthorne, other people were reading or working so not overly chatty or loud.

The Hawthorne location is a suitable place for shopping and what nots.

The highlight is the careful craftsmanship of batista Benny! He has an acute esthetic for expresso quality, and has made the best spicy mocha I've had in awhile!

Perfect atmosphere to enjoy this drink and more, anytime of the year.

Please vist Fresh Pot Hawthorne, and say "hey" to Benny!

Thank you Freshpot

I've lived in Portland 20 years, and have been coming to this location for just about that long. I am just completely over the nasty, pretentious barista persona. I asked for a flat white and the one barista said " oh so that's basically our latte". They must have sensed I was doubtful, so a second barista, " What does flat white mean to you?" and I said very little milk. And he said " So you mean a cortado" with the most smug, know it all, condescending look on his face.

The whole interaction was obnoxious, as if they own coffee culture and talk to people like they don't know anything. Bruh, a flat white, a latte and a cortado are all different things, I've spend time in Europe, where they know how to make a flat white, which is much less milk than a latte, and just a tad more than a cortado. Anytime you ask for a flat white in Portland, you get a latte. The city does not know how to make them, and the baristas don't seem to want to actually be self-reflective, check their nonsense hipster ego, actually have humility in their interactions, and be friendly to people instead of talking down to them.

I just walked out. Go just a few doors down to the lovely Egyptian coffee shop, what a beautiful owner who treats people with care and affection, and honestly has much better coffee.

I didn't get the coffee, but their everything galette was so good, I had to leave a review. Super nice folks behind the counter too. YUM!

I have gone several times b/c of its location. But the baristas are unfriendly, sometimes not saying a word as they take my order, and never calling out when it's ready. Last time I went, I asked what a "cortado" was, and the barista said "coffee and milk". So I asked Google instead, and decided to try it. It was very bitter; I didn't finish my cup. I don't know if that's what cortados are supposed to taste like; maybe I will try one at a different café.

Wheelchair accessibility: The entry is through Powell's bookstore, which is confusing, but accessible. The café itself is a cramped, narrow space. Not recommended for wheelchairs or walkers.

Coffee and atmosphere have always been nice at every visit, but staff (both) were rude for no reason...

Lovely coffee spot inside the Powell Books on Hawthorne Blvd. Great coffee, yummy snacks and obviously a great place to read a book.
