The Golden Garden is thus far the best Chinese restaurant I been since I moved from Santa Barbara, California to Portland…I love the Mongolia Beef, Hot and Sour Soup and Egg Rolls!! The Golden Garden interior is very nice decorated and clean, following what a Chinese restaurant is supposed to look like!! I feel like I’m in a 80’s movie set.

2 out of 5.
The dining experience was underwhelming. While the variety of dishes looked promising, the flavors didn’t quite deliver, feeling average despite the high price. The ambiance was fine, but the lack of basic amenities—such as soap in the bathroom—took away from the overall impression. For the cost, the meal should have provided more depth in taste and a better sense of value.
The Thai tea was delicious.

I have been here multiple times. Coming here with a group and eating the dishes as it arrives is really a treat The food was fresh, piping hot and so well made. The serving is largish. The menu encompasses a wide range of cooking techniques. Look at the board listing the specials near the counter. They had a special that featured lobster fried rice or lobster lo mein for $19.95. A bargain.
Actually, we plan to go there for dinner tonight just to splurge. The combo dry style fried rice was great as were all the five dishes we ordered. It had a smokiness that isn't often found in other restaurants. The restaurant is rather old and tired, but it's the food that.that stands out. The owner is there all the time. She covers all roles, lol. I will update later tonight after dinner.
Between me and some friends but close to $70, food was absolutely horrible sesame chicken drowned in sauce. How's chow mein was disgusting, barbecue pork so dry. The crab puffs with the only thing that were edible, and I will say that those were some of the best I've ever had. But literally everything else a few bites we're taking out of and thrown away
We found our new spot! The portions were perfect, they had it ready quickly, and everything tasted great! Not soaked with sauces, not artificial. Just great food! The only thing I'd prefer is more eco friendly packaging but that's takeout for ya!
Soo good food
Generous portions and amazing flavors

The place is beautiful inside, ornate decoration everywhere. The workers are respectful and ready to help if we have a question or something in our order was swapped by accident. They always give us delicious, filling food in large portions. When we get takeout it lasts for days.
Vegetarian options: They have a great selection of vegetarian options, I’ve had a couple and they are just as delicious as all the meat options I’ve tried.
Dietary restrictions: I have a gluten sensitivity, and while they have gluten soy sauce, they have been friendly and accommodating when I ask them to make things gluten free. I take it home and add my own gf sauce and it’s just as tasty.
Parking: They have a very small lot but there’s rarely many cars in there. There is some street parking but it’s in front of housing so try not to stay very long if you’re gonna do that.

My husband and I have been coming to this resteraunt for 12 years. We had our first date here and having been coming to this resteraunt since. Their Mongolian beef and egg-fu-young are out of this world. No one has compared to them. Their meat is always tender and food is made from scratch. I reccomend checking them out. It's soo good.

We're from LA, so I'm sorry(?) and also - this is thus far the best Chinese restaurant we've been to in Portland in the 8 years we've lived here. We settled on thinking we just won't experience the same dining for Chinese food in this city. Soo la voo.
We've been to all the spots you're thinking of and nope, Gold Garden was better tonight. Even my Chinese/Filipina mother said this is better than [that spot you're thinking of]. Sooo flavorful, huge portions, and such friendly service, even understanding our 7mo and 6.8yo had needs to address too. If you're also used to and wondering about restaurant 'health' grades in Portland, this spot received 100/A+ with its last inspection.
These portions are family style and the menu with dining experience is just like spots we grew up going to, down to the soda can with straw.
We ordered: deep fried crab Hong Kong style with garlic (omg delicious!), enoki mushroom and tofu, Chinese broccoli, salt and pepper shrimp and squid, soup dumplings, fish maw soup, and duck with pineapple (not our fav). Yes, we had a ton of leftovers for the coming days - you know Asian mamas.
Parking: Behind the building are some spots, and there is one handicap on the side, otherwise street parking is available.
