We came during a brunch time. It was pretty busy but the staffed handled it with what seemed like ease. Everyone was real nice and the food was absolutely delicious. I always make a detour here and worth it every time. I definitely recommend checking them out

First time coming here! Let me say the food was awesome! Very flavorful and very different which I love! I've never ate grits for breakfast or even knew how they looked lol but I do now. So as coming in as a first timer- customer service is a big thing it shows respect to everyone and does improve business. So we waited 5 min max, a waiter came to us to take us to our seats but as she approached us kind of rude I mean kind of you can hear the sarcasm from her as she talks. I'm not one to complain but it's after that I didn't like. I let that slide whatever, as we ordered she has that little attitude snotty vibe. And yes she did. I let it go. Then we were placed so close to others as well and the lady next to me called her and asked where they paid at nice sweet lady she comes and says OH I DONT KNOW IF YOU HEARD ME THE FIRST TIME I SAID BUT YOU HAVE TO GO IN THE FRONT the couple got up so fast and left and the customer apologized to the waiter 🤨 then the waiter sat another couple next to us... I hear the young woman asking the waiter 1st time them being there asks her what's good on the menu and what she suggests- the waiter gave her a stupid look and said BREAKFAST. The lady was like what foods she starts naming stuff on menu etc, and waiter goes along with her and walks away. But here's where it gets interesting I ORDERED The COUNTRY BOY BREAKFAST and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. Waiter comes to my husband and was like oh yeah you need a bowl for that she's smiling and all my husband is like yeah please she's like ok I'll be back. Back she came and my plate was STILL FULL, I was done too when she came the fist time 😂 my husband was like wtf she looks at my plate walked away didn't acknowledge my big ass plate of food my husband thought like what the, so I get her attention Ma'am may I have a plate to go please she's like oh yeah I'll bring you one. Walks away. She takes an order walks by us again went behind the counter pulled her phone out I was like look told my husband he said wtf he got up went to her- ask her Can we have that to go box for my wife SHE SAID OH I DIDNT GET ONE OK LET ME GET YOU ONE he got it I said why was she like that with all the woman- not the men. Weird right. Couple next to us the guy was saying that's weird too.. so we definitely didn't like that, I will be eating there again but I will not stay quiet to waitress who behaves like this. I didn't get her name or else I would of put it here! We were here on JANUARY 4TH AT 1:20 PM.

I'm so disappointed we love coming here but today has changed our minds the food is great always is but the service today was just horrible and the sad part about it was they weren't that busy like they normally are there was 8 tables with two servers. Our server didn't check on us one time my husband had to go up to the counter to get a refill on his drink because he couldn't find our server and the other server just looked at us and did her table we had to go up and ask for a box to go the table next to us went up as well to get refills on there drinks cause they had the same server and this lady came and cleared there table and they weren't even done yet we paid 53 dollars it just not worth it especially when we are on a tight budget and treat ourselves to get service like that is just not ok. Especially if your not even busy we have gotten better service when it been packed packed then we did today.

The Shanes Sweet Thang was a little bit of a let down. Everything else was amazing! Service was great!
Slow service, but worth the amazing food. Ordered their signature shrimp and grits. It didn't disappoint. The dish came as shown in the picture.

Come hungry. Everything is sooo good and the portions are huge. My husband had sausage biscuits and gravy and every bite I stole was heaven. I had buttered grits which were off the hook. We liked it so much we came back twice! We were there during the week and got seated right away, we had the same waiter both times and he was great. Also, the music was terrific. Really good vibe throughout.

I was told the food was excellent. That was not the case. I had the chicken fried steak and a piece of catfish with a side of red beans and rice and buttery grits. Let’s start with the chicken fried steak and catfish were dripping in oil and pretty salty and I like salt. The red beans and rice were okay just a little to tomato forward for my taste and you can’t go wrong with grits. Overall it was okay but I wouldn’t go again.

The best part of this place is the atmosphere. It can feel like a welcome home feeling to those who may be missing soul food/music. The food was great and service was fast. They had pork substitutions and were flexible. It is close to the big Powells books. Is it’s quite narrow inside so ADA could prove slightly more difficult, but there are seats close to the door which would just require a call ahead (I imagine). Street parking is slim but there.

Loved Grits & Gravy— Cool eclectic fun place to hang out and eat great food! Happen to be lucky enough to be there when LP was playing guitar and singing with her angelic voice!! The uptown shrimp and grits was AMAZING!! Super filling!
