For a hotel bar the food had good sized portions, I had the shareable brussel sprouts and they were almost too big to share with one other person. Drinks were a little spendy, and no N/A cocktails.

Incredibly friendly service! Wonderful spot for some cocktails. We were able to look out to the street and people-watch while enjoying our drinks.

Excellent team of people serving great food. Our family of four (including picky toddler) thoroughly enjoyed breakfast to dinner during our 7 night stay (!!!) when most of Portland was shutdown due to ice storm. Relaxing yet upscale ambience with very professional service. Try the burger and the risotto! Cocktails and dessert were also great.

Place had a good vibe but after that went down hill. Went to try their Christmas Day deal. There were two people working but place was not too busy (as evidenced by all the openings in open table). The pacing was super off for everything. Drinks didn’t come until after salad was served after we asked for them. Actual main course took over an hour and a half. Kept saying kitchen was backed up but everyone around us had their meals already. Prime rib had potential but was overcooked. Spouse’s fish overcooked beyond the pale and was tough and dry . Dessert (billed as a dark chocolate tart) looked like it came straight out of freezer and hard as a rock.

We made a reservation for 6:30 PM on Christmas night. We arrived and the restaurant was 1/4 full. Our waitress was very nice but not super good about bringing drinks out timely. I ordered the halibut. It was $50. It was so overcooked I could not cut through it with a knife. I finally gave up and left 2/3 of it on the plate. The green beans were over cooked and soggy. It took 75 minutes for our food to arrive at the table from the time our order was put in. The server kept telling us, “your entrees are coming out soon” but they did not arrive. We were preparing to ask for the check and leave without eating when it finally came. My husband had the prime rib prix fixe meal. The prime rib was also so over cooked it was not edible. The server did not take any of our food off of the bill despite us not eating it. The bill was $162 with a 4 percent service charge. What a disappointment. We would not ever return. We had to ask for the bill at 90 minutes to get home. Marriot has a better reputation than this.

Limited menu, pricing seemed high. Service was average.

Nice enough place. But the waitress told me to seat myself after waiting next to the sign that says wait to be seated, and took 15 minutes to bring water and order a glass of wine. Was going to order dinner, but it took over an hour before they checked in again. At that point I was hungry and done so I ordered delivery.

I had high hopes for Portland's High Horse as it has the same name as a great spot I visited in SF, but alas, it was disappointing. Here's what was good:The space is nicely decorated and comfortable with a variety of table heights. Our server made efforts to provide good service and was responsive when we requested an ice bucket for our bottle (although it was large enough to hold four bottles). Here's what was bad to very bad:The first impression. We stood at the host stand for a moment trying to figure out who to tell we had a reservation and were greeted by what we thought was a staff member but came to realize was a patron. They yelled out from the bar that we were in the right place for a Thanksgiving feast. After a server told us to "grab any table" it became apparent that reservations were superfluous since only one table was occupied and there were three people at the bar. Later when my son asked a server where the restroom was located the same patron questioned my son about whether he was a man or a woman. I realize a patron's behavior isn't a direct reflection of a restaurant, but it impacted our experience nonetheless. The food was overpriced and lazily prepared. The halibut ($50) was very oily (there was about 3 tbsp of oil- and a whole raw garlic clove- remaining on the plate after the fish was eaten) and there wasn't a hint of black truffle detectable in the black truffle risotto ($32) but there was A LOT of salt. I can't imagine anyone tasted it prior to sending it from the kitchen and I did not (could not) eat much. I was glad the server had left a bottle of water for the table until we realized it had been set on top of a panel that concealed an electrical outlet. Fortunately, we had a giant ice bucket to put the water bottle in, away from the outlet. Overall, I took away a few lessons from the experience: 1. It seems obvious now, but places with the same name aren't necessarily remotely similar2. Don't go to a restaurant for the first time on a major holiday or important event 3. If a few days before Thanksgiving there are reservations available it might be a bad sign

We stayed at the Bidwell and thought we might just have a lazy hotel dinner. We were in for a delicious surprise! They make fantastic cocktails here! The short rib pasta was amazing – had we not been in public, I would have licked that plate! We also gave the cucumber salad a try, so good. We will come back here for dinner.

Yum! The food was so flavorful and service was perfect. The menu has a great variety - Little Gem Salad, the burger, and my favorite, the short ribs. Location was good. We'll be back soon.

I'm surprised of the negative reviews that initially popped up. They must have a new cook now, because it was the BEST MEAL I've ever had at a restaurant!

We chose to eat here as it was the middle ground for us to meet up. I haven't been here since they changed restaurants. The interior was very nicely designed and had a great ambiance. The bartender/server was friendly and helpful throughout our meal. We ordered some wings and the pastrami sandwich to share. The wings were ok, not as crispy as what I'm used to. The pastrami sandwich, however, was tasty. I did like the dip that it came with. Overall, it was a pretty decent experience, and I would come here again.
