Been here twice in the last 4 months. Only here on off nights, so I'm not sure how busy this place gets normally. The food was good both times, and the sake selection is good. The wait staff has always been nice. Love all the artwork the have, and my companion always raves about the bathroom. Haha

This was my first ever meal in Portland, my friend and I came here on a whim before going to a show at the Wonder Ballroom, and it has by far been my best meal I've had the entire trip. We happened to get there during happy hour, which means we got 5 side dishes, 2 ramens, drinks and taiyaki for $66. It was amazing! Though I would have happily paid more for it because of the amazing experience. The staff was so friendly and accommodating (loved the server who was fine with me not having gronion!) and the food itself was so extremely delicious. Next time I'm in Portland, I'm definitely going to be visiting here again!

Food was delectably delicious. Nan was our server, and they were nothing short of a dedicated professional that oozes nonchalant. Her presence and smile are warm and inviting, didn't mess up our order, and checked in frequently. Kindness goes a long way in the world and they know it!

Waitress did an outstanding job with the information and was quick with the food food was awesome. Spicy poke bowl, Okinomi yaki, hot fried tofu and temaki. All the food was great. Nice atmosphere, very relaxed.

This is real, authentic Japanese food, served in true izakaya fashion. Think of it like Japanese tapas, but with main courses on order as well. If you want food identical to Japan without hopping on a plane, you need to come here.

wish i could leave six stars!! popped in for happy hour before a show at the wonder. got a little bit of everything and loved it all. edamame, hand rolls, udon, gyoza, sake -- oh my! couldn't pass up the tempura banana for dessert. staff was so friendly and welcoming. no one hesitated to check in when they passed our cozy booth. bang the drum twice for good luck! can't wait to come back.

Great sushi and sashimi. The service was amazing, I wanted to tell the owner but he was busy. Every server was super friendly and resourceful.

Really like this place. Have eaten here many many times, always been pleased. They offer truly traditional Japanese cuisine, in an authentic atmosphere. I love the interior and honestly that is half the reason I come is the atmosphere. They have a good selection of sake too. I really love the traditional sides they offer, especially the mountain yams and eggplants. Highly recommend.

My only critique would be that it'd be nice if there was a bit more traditional Japanese music or something like lofi hip hop which does have some Japanese connection with Nujabes, it's basically standard popular American music from 1970's to present. What could be considered a critique is the portion size to cost of some dishes isn't great, but for others you get a fair amount of high quality food for your dollar so choose wisely if you're on a budget.

I think this place is great. I had the Ebi-Mayo 'tapas' and it was excellent, followed by the equally excellent chicken katsu curry!

The restaurant was clean and very atmospheric. The waitress was very professional and friendly. She helped me pick menu items by explaining the dishes in a way you could understand the flavor for any dishes that you have never had before. I had the Chicken Katsu Curry, Takoyaki, Miso Soup, and Taiyaki. All of the food was delicious and looked pleasant to the eyes as well. They had a nice selection of sake. The restrooms were very clean as well. 10/10 good overall experience I would recommend to people interested in trying something new or for those who enjoy Japanese food.
