This is easily the best coffee in Portland- JJ makes everything (including the syrups!) in house and can adjust to your preference.
However, my favorite thing about coming here is how he’s made this a space for the neighborhood- he is so kind and welcoming, knows everyone, knows their coffee order, knows their dog. It’s lovely to have this little corner of the community to sit and chat with a damn good cup of coffee and it’s obvious through every interaction with him that he cares for his craft, and the people he serves.

A truly delicious cup of coffee. You may think you’re drinking good coffee but wait until you try J Vein. You can expect service with a smile, a mood boosting chat, and a true craftsman who cares about his end product. I usually drink a decaf mocha(to hide the bitterness of most decafs), but I wanted to really taste his espresso so I went with the cortado. It was so smooth, so rich and so flavorful. The kind of coffee drink that makes you realize you’ve been drinking subpar coffee prepared by people who do not understand the craft. There will be a line on the weekends, fyi.

It's been 5 years now. We survived CoViD! So, let's add some updates...: - The best chai anywhere, a special blend made just for JJ and his tastes which tend toward the fairly spicy side. If you are from India, the person making this with JJ used to be a chaiwalla! - Free treats for all dogs, doggos,, doggies, and puppies! Come join the celebratory lineup of canines that often occurs in line! - Free hot cocoa for the children, kids, kiddos, and pint-sized people! And what an art it is! Watch JJ foam together cocoa and milk of choice, make handmade whip if desired, grind chocolate on top and add marshmallows! - It can get pretty busy on the weekends, so come on in on the weekdays if you don't like long lines! - Don't forget: Knock on the metal of the Spartan Manor aluminum trailer and JJ will be right out! - Just like Spella, the decaf is amazing, just as good as the regular espresso, unheard of! - Handmade gelatto and wow, some of these flavors have never appeared anywhere else on earth! JJ is pretty inventive and has an amazing palette. - A large selection of teas, including some of the best sencha and genmaicha anywhere. If you haven't had genmaicha with its roasted rice added to sencha, you have not had the #1 most favored tea in Japan! Only takes 60 seconds or less to brew!

This place is exceptional. JJ is incredible, so personable and clearly so passionate about his craft. We were first time customers but those in front of us weren't, and he treated all of us like old friends. Coffee is delicious, and he asked questions to find out what we would like most (asking if we wanted sweet, balanced, etc when it came to sweetener). I will absolutely come out of my way to come here.
