This place is amazing. I just got back from London, Mayfair. And I can say for sure that our of the few restaurants I visited there, none would surpass Jenkins in terms of sensation of taste. Breakfast menus out there are top knotch for sure, but Jenkins is definitely better overall than even Hide. And Hide has 1 Michelin star.
Sidenote, the blueberry creme brulee is simply the best I've had. In my entire life.

I've been to this place twice! Very crowded, food is average not so amazing for this price! The atmosphere is warm and cozy with fine dining tables and foods for dating but again it is always busy and crowded! I made a reservation to sit close to the tree but they couldn't let us sit where we wanted

Food good. But ambience dreadful and pretentious - incredibly loud pulsating music that made conversation impossible. Also, meal was ruined by piercing flashing fire alarm that was triggered inside the restaurant for about 20 minutes. No comp offered by staff.

Horrible service and the food was bland. Extremely over priced and disappointing sushi. Miso soup and Edamame were good. Pineapple Express drink was delicious. 20% tip is added to bill regardless of party size and we received horrible service. Drinks ran out multiple times, including water, wrong food brought to table, and it took almost 30” just to get our drinks. Server was clearly busy but at this price point and an added gratuity, the restaurant needs to have better staffing that can provide better service.

We came here for my husband’s birthday dinner, and it was the perfect date spot. Our waiter, James, was incredible. He clearly takes joy in his craft, and was a very helpful guide throughout our dining experience! He is a gem!
We loved the cocktails, wine and the food was fabulous! The menu can be overwhelming (because everything looks so good) but we ordered:
Hamachi nigiri
Spicy yellowtail
Hamachi crispy rice
Green beans
Wagyu gyoza
Wagyu fried rice
Seared scallops
Lobster rolls
The only disappointment was the scallops (too chewy for us). However, when we didn’t eat them the manager came over to apologize and took it off the bill. We were pleasantly surprised with the level of service. From James to the other servers and runners to the manager, it was clearly a team of people who take pride in what they do and what they offer. They have new lifers — we will be back, often!

My husband and I had previously come here on a date night and enjoyed the omakase option (great option, highly recommended! You can give them the price range you are looking for if you like), so we decided to come back to celebrate his birthday with family.
Food was beautifully presented. Server was wonderful and kind, prompt. Water service was available although could have been faster/left a bottle available for self pours because we were in a corner. We were celebrating a birthday and received a treat for that. Bussers were great and friendly. Cocktails were great, they can make mocktails of several options. We were a party of 5 and ordered 9 apps (mushroom bao x2, Brussels sprouts, green beans, wagyu gyoza, charred corn, crispy prawns, SRF pork belly, octopus) and 4 mains. This sufficiently filled us given the smaller serving sizes. Think 1-2 bites per person per app for 5 adults. The branzino special was outstanding. Strongly recommend the mushroom baos which were a surprise favorite, the SRF pork belly, along with the Dubai chocolate!
Cons: when we walked in, hostesses acted as if they could not have cared less that we were there, and although we had made reservations online already with clear instructions, it was obvious that did not read the memo that we had a young baby and preferred a less trafficked/more quiet area. They eventually accommodated our request after we explained multiple times. A bit pricy for the serving sizes but not entirely unexpected given the current economic situation.
Minor note that because we were in a corner, the servers/bussers would be in each other’s/our way sometimes

The lobster was not fresh at all – it tasted terrible and is definitely not recommended. I had diarrhea next day and didn’t feel well on my stomach. The grilled fish was overcooked, and although we were compensated with a lobster roll, it did not make up for the awful experience.
The menu setup is also frustrating; having to use a phone to read tiny fonts feels cheap and unprofessional for a sit-down restaurant.
This meal completely ruined our trip to Portland. To make matters worse, I ended up with stomach pain after dinner. Such a disappointing and unpleasant experience – never coming back.
The manager refused to give us discounts!

Janken’s food was great! There was not a single miss. The soft shell crab and truffle rolls were a real standout and I’m still thinking of them.
The experience was where I was left wanting more. To start, when seated for our 7pm res we were given a QR code and told that was the menu- it’s 2025, a QR is totally fine! But every table seated around us was given menus. Maybe they were out? It wasn’t a big deal but odd. The server suggested 3-5 dishes per person so we ordered 7 and by dish 4, we were full - and we aren’t dainty eaters. We had $200 worth of food still coming and we were nearing capacity. I wish there was more instruction around which portions are larger and can suffice less dishes per person. We even asked her if our 7 was too much or too little and she told us it seemed good. In the past, places like Kann have told us when we ordered too much and I appreciate that transparency!
Finally it was our wedding anniversary and aside from them wishing us a happy anniversary there was no other bells and whistles! No glass of bubbles, no comp dessert. Mind you, we went to Fancy Baby after for some bubbles and they immediately gave us 2.5oz pours on the house to celebrate when we joked we needed bubbles for our anniversary!
I totally recognize that it’s not on a restaurant to give freebies. Margins are tight. You’re not owed anything but what you paid for but I think all of this accompanied by our $500 bill, I just expected better service! I was underwhelmed by Jankens ability to make a diner feel special or taken care of, especially when comparing to other high end experiences in PDX.
Would return for the food but likely not for a special occasion again.

We had the most amazing experience at janken and talked about the food for hours after. The service from Sofia was perrrrfect. Thank you for taking care of us, we started plotting our next visit the moment we left ♥️

Summary: Despite some enjoyable food and exciting atmosphere, would not come back due to out of order and delayed food.
Food: The wagyu hot stone was the best thing. We never had wagyu slices like this before, so we’re grateful for this experience. Chef selection nigiri was enjoyable, however there were strong citrus flavors on some pieces that were unbalanced and made me say “whoa” and shake my head. There was one very good melt in your mouth nigiri piece, also happy about that. Crispy noodle salad was tasty but our mouths were burning afterwards because of too much garlic in the dressing. Also we didn’t expect the crispy noodle to simply be fried crispy things on top. Green beans were also hot and tasty, but a bit intense with the sauce. Edamame we thought was good. Cocktails were okay, we half finished one and the other was a bit too sour and over shadowed the mezcal. Crispy tuna appetizer was good
Service: Our waitress was very professional and friendly. As part of the restaurant’s norms, our waitress took our full order at the very beginning of our time there. However, the major reason for this three star review is because despite taking our full order, our dishes came out late and disorderly. It was well over an hour before we received our first main dish. And then two hours after eating the main dishes, we received the side order of green beans. Then, another 10 minutes later, at very last, we were given the salad. We were very hungry and this timing was hard to get through. Additionally, it did not make sense to us to receive our side dishes after the main meal, and especially, to receive a salad last after eating everything. And to top everything off, the salad dressing left an unpleasant aftertaste with intense garlic flavors. We ended our meal with our mouths feeling uncomfortable.
Atmosphere: it was a hot day even at night, but it was uncomfortably hot inside and we were sweating a bit. We enjoyed the pink tree in the middle of the restaurant - it really made the space. I liked the music. It did seem like the tables next to us were slow to get service.
Price: the other major reason for this review was the price for the wagyu - $95 for 6 small, thin slices. While it was outstanding in taste, when the plate landed the portion was shocking. I believe the portion we got would have been better priced at $50, if that. We’ve been to other restaurants that serve Japanese A5 Wagyu at the $80 price point and at portions that feel genuine.
Final note: I read other 1 star reviews here that noted that their anniversary dinners were ruined because of the service and mismanagement of their food. While I don’t think this is a one star restaurant, we were fairly disappointed. If our occasion was even more momentous, like others, I would have likely talked to management to see how they could have made things right. Fortunately, we made some other plans and closed out what could have been a night marked by confusion.

Made a reservation for a surprise birthday party, there were 12 of us. I appreciate the events coordinator and the staff for making the night so special. Food was phenomenal and everyone enjoyed all the dishes. No complaints, even with some of our friends who have food allergies/restrictions. Dessert was phenomenal and we even went back a few days later for just that.
