After a colleague recommended it, I visited John's Market and I've gotta say, the beer selection, and the food did not disappoint! This place is a gem nestled in Portland's where you can sit outside on a beautiful sunny day and take in some good food and great beer (or wine). A+++!
This place is truly the Beertopia of Portland Oregon.
I really want to like Johns, but I've had more terrible experiences than good ones.
Pros:
-The wine and beer tastings are always a fun treat, occur frequently and are free. The people hosting these are usually incredibly friendly.
-The wine and beer selection is unbeatable, usually pretty cheap outside of the specialty items, and is great to take home if you want to try anything new.
That's the end of the pros.
Cons:
-More often than not, the staff is a surly, unfriendly bunch. There is a dark haired woman who is the most unfriendly of the group that runs the bar. My best experience has been with the bald gentleman that has the clear framed glasses.
-The food is abysmal. The kitchen must be ran by some high school students who just learned to cook. This place has the worst burger in the Village, bar none.
-Some of the customers have been really snobby, will cut in line.
-A personal gripe is the groups of customers who decide it's a good idea to bring their children here. I understand it's technically family-oriented, but it's mainly objective is to sell you alcohol. The kids should be outside on the patio and not near expensive bottles of wine and beer.
Great spot for lunch, great beers on tap and obviously all the beer you could ever want to go.
My boyfriend and I really like coming here, great selection and yummy food, but more often than not we get helped by people who seem like they'd rather be anywhere else. Went in today, my boyfriend said hello to the person running the register, they don't even look up or say hello back, just asked us what we wanted. This person has helped us before and we had a similar interaction. They seemed annoyed that they had to help us. Not super impressed with the customer service lately.
John’s Marketplace!!!! The one and only best beer and wine spot in Multnomah Villagez. Been going here for almost 20 years and they have to have been here a very long time. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their beers and selection. You can fill a basket with a. Wide variety of brews, ales, mead, etc. from around the world. 🌎 they also sell less you can get a half keg or full keg for an event or party. They have co2 tanks too! I think they might fill growlers off their taps too. If you love beer and want to reward your tastebuds, JOHN’s Market is the spot. If you’re hungry and want a great burger and a nice pint to compliment it, JOHN’s Market is the spot. If you want to get lost in the beauty of the world that is brewing and beer, JOHN’s Market is the SPOT! I stopped in to get a couple ale’s for my brother in law to bring him back to his love when living in England for 8 years, and got him a gift card to go in and pick out some new ones to try or his other favorites. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! Thank you for Reading! 🙏👍
John’s is one of the best burger values in town and has a real community feel to the space. It’s always poppin’ and they have a great tap selection. Staff is very friendly.
Saw them not ID someone that could have easily be under 21 and the long curly hair guy that works there kept eyeing all the kids that were with their families. Absolute creep
Great selection of beer. Always enjoy seeing what they have.
Unmatched beer selection in a town known for having hard to locate beers

Parking is an absolute nightmare. They should make 1 or 2 parking spots just for people buying kegs. Because I'm not gonna park two blocks away and haul an empty keg back to the store in the rain and then a full one back to my truck. I'll just shop somewhere else.
Great selection, and smash burgers rule!
Holy Cow! The best selection I've ever seen in the PNW hands down!!
The OG brew snob's destination in Portland! Situated in the Southiest of Southwest, this is a great casual spot to meet with friends, order some tasty deli selections, and sample the nation's finest beer and wine. Tasting events regularly. Kegs to-go. Special orders. They do it all! I love John's, and I bring all of my visiting friends and family here if they like beer. It never fails to impress.
