These guys have a fine business. Prices are comparable to other coffee shops. Food comes with various options from healthy, savory, sweet, and local ingredients. There is a lot of indoor and outside space, the customer service is so good, music can vary in volume, and there are a standard amount of outlets.
My only complaint is that their WiFi can be spotty. So, if you’re coming to do work, then check the WiFi before committing to doing work there. It may be better to move somewhere that has WiFi that is functional.

I’m in love with this place! Every dish I’ve had I would have again. Cute cafe and love the sidewalk option in a super cute neighborhood!

Stopped in today to work for a bit while my kiddo was busy doing something. Really nice place, the burrito was delicious with bunch of different hot sauce options.
Way bigger inside than was expecting so was able to find place to sit no problem.
Only reason not 5 star is the WiFi wasn't working making it a bit harder to get some work done.

I have been to Jola many times during the week for coffee, pastries and lunch. Today my son and I decided to try the weekend brunch for Father’s Day. As on the weekdays, it’s counter service, but they have a full brunch menu. Not much of a line and ordering was easy. Everyone was very nice. I left a 20% tip on top of what I thought was a very reasonably priced meal. We ordered juice and coffee. It took me three trips to get all the drinks and water glasses and silverware out to the table. They brought our food. Nobody offered any refills, but I’m sure we could have gotten one if we cared to. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed our meal very much. Then, when we were ready to leave my kid asked if we needed to bus our own table. I looked around, didn’t see any obvious signs one way or the other and decided it would be okay if we didn’t. Since we had several plates and glasses each it would have taken several trips. And it wasn’t so busy that people were waiting for the table. I just figured that when they were serving full meals they probably had a bus tub or cart they could bring out. But before we got out the door the “server” called us out loudly across the room full of diners to let us know that the “house rules” were that we had to clear our own table. So this is my message to Jola owners, managers, and staff: (1) I enjoy your food and will come back, but maybe a little less often., (2) I’ll be hesitant to recommend the place to others or to take guests or clients there who might be offended or put off by this kind of treatment, (3) I am not going to tip you in the future for providing the service rudely telling me to clean up after myself.

I got a 16 oz iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it was SO good. I was so impressed with the quality of the coffee and the flavor. Would 100% come back for the coffee alone. I also got a bacon breakfast sandwich, which was also good :) So excited to come back!
Walked in, no staff anywhere to be found. I sat at a table for 15 minutes waiting to order, no one came into the room the entire time. No signs anywhere to indicate that I should order somewhere else or anything. Very unwelcoming and wasted 15 mins of my short 45 minute window to get a bite to eat.

Delicious food, great Art and nice staff .I really enjoy the atmosphere.
I go here with my son , he loves the corn beef hash.
This place undoubtedly through the years has had exponential potential, but their biggest business failure has been the service, at all levels, and then prices that don't align with their horrific service. I gave it 4 tries throughout the years, but Portland has too much competition to invest in this place that doesn't invest in their customers or their personal success.
Well I normally wouldn’t rate a good place like Jola so low if it wasn’t from one person that is behind the counter, I stop by this morning and the lady was so rude, I ask something and she didn’t even respond, I ask for cinnamon and she didn’t even say oh yes we have or yeah sure.
If someone is not happy on their day or life or not feeling good to be interacting with and be social.
Don’t take those jobs.
I am not often in the S. Portland neighborhood, but when I am it's such a treat to visit this place. Decidedly quaint European vibe, always good reliable healthy cafe food and a range of beverage items. Impressed by the cleanliness - seems to always be someone walking around cleaning up, wiping tables, delivering food. Helpful courteous staff. So yourself a favor and have a coffee and a breakfast sandwich here.
Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant customer service experience with Dani.
