Had my second visit to Kaede yesterday and it was just as incredible as the first. The omakase was outstanding — everything fresh, seasonal, and prepared with amazing attention to detail. The space itself is intimate, stylish, and has a quiet, understated elegance. The couple running it are warm and welcoming, with a kind, no-pressure approach that makes the whole experience even better. Truly a gem — I’ll definitely be back.

I honestly feel like I don’t even need to leave a review, because Kaede already has such high reviews and I would just be repeating the same information others have provided. But wow, as a huge fan of sushi, I haven’t quite had an experience like this in Portland. It beats nimble fish and the intimacy and quality of the experience and food is unbeatable. Restaurants like Kaede remind me why I’ve hustled for so long to have the kind of life where I can afford to dine at a place like this every so often.

I came here for a special occasion and it was by far, the best omakase experience I’ve ever had. We’ll definitely return for our next celebratory treat.
This was some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. We sat at the bar and got to watch the chef make each piece, which he then described to us at each step through the tasting menu. We went early and it was a very quiet setting. We’ll definitely go back for another special occasion!

Let me set the scene. We’re a married couple in our early 30s who recently got back from Tokyo and think we’re too good for sushi in America now. Barely willing to try. We arrive at Kaede like emotionally unavailable sushi lovers with our guard up, untrusting and bracing for disappointment.
And then, after a stroke of magic, aka Chef Shinji, sushi in Portland was forever changed for us. We no longer had to travel 5 thousand miles to Tokyo to fulfill what seemed to be an insurmountable craving. From the appetizers to the nigiri to the ambiance to the pillow talk with Chef Shinji while sitting at the bar, WOW. Every bite was fantastic and truly rivaled the sushi we had during our trip to Japan. The attention to detail and flavor profile of every piece of fish was unique and insanely fresh. We entered Kaede with a superiority complex and we left grateful and eager to return. Arigato gozaimasu!
