This is our go to place anytime we want a great meal. The food is delicious. We’ve tried much of the menu and it is all delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. The staff is friendly and prompt.Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free and dairy free options that are labeled. We really appreciate it.

Best yellow curry I’ve ever eaten. They were extremely accommodating and had plenty of clean seating!

Really good food with some fun surprises. I got SOM TUM PU PLA LA which is really pungent, I recommend if you like fish sauce a lot. KOR MU YAANG was tender and flavorful with a good char. SPICY GREEN BEAN WITH CRISPY PORK BELLY, the veggies were flavorful and pork was tender and crispy and delicious.

We used to eat at the downtown location all the time when we lived in the Pearl. Imagine my joy when I found a location in our new neighborhood in Bethany village! I've never had a single thing on the menu that I didn't love. We have taken many friends here that swear it's the best Thai they have had in Portland, which is saying something because we have some great ones! Highly recommend their spicy basil chicken and their crispy pork belly and green beans. You can also purchase containers of their house-made chili oil. Happy hour on weekdays until 6 is also pretty good!

I ordered a take out- pad see ew and masamam curry. They forgot to give me the rice and I had to come all the way back to pick it up. The noodles were just ok, nothing I will go back for.

It's been 8 years since my last discussion of Khao San, so let's provide a little update: "Excellent flavors, expertly prepared." remains very true. The crispy pork belly remains crispy and porky, the sauces remain well-balanced. The people remain, well... nice. Perhaps not terribly efficient. Their grasp of flavor balance remains impressive, even if I do find myself often ordering 2 dishes to improve the protein-vegetable pairings. I have come here again, and again, and again. As the years have progressed, Khao San has done a fantastic job keeping its pricing accessible and its portions fair. Yes, there is bigger, better Thai in the Portland area... but not a lot of it. Even if you only have Thai once in a blue moon, Khao San should be in your rotation. The thing which stands out the most about Khao San, though, and why it easily holds its rating, is something subtle. It might sound a bit odd, but Khao San puts out one particular vibe: Respect. Khao San's cooks show great respect for their ingredients, not smothering them, but rather, accentuating their strengths. The prices respect your money, and therefore your time and effort, while also being fair to the business. The service staff both give and demand respect, taking their jobs seriously and reaching far to accommodate the patrons. Yes, sometimes someone forgets to check the front for patrons, but more often, a waitress thinks to confirm possible allergies to surprising ingredients. Khao San, from its menu to its staff, exemplifies respect.

The Pad Thai when I got for take out during lunch was not good. But maybe it was a one off.

The food is great but very inconsistent with spice. I order pad see eew at one spice level and it isn’t spicy at all so I go to the next spice level next time and it’s so spicy I can’t eat it. When spending decent money on food, I’d like to be able to actually eat it.

Food is good, but I get stomachache every time I tried…

Added a 20% tip on the bill without notice , employee that didn’t serve me tried to get me to tip 20% and called me rude for not paying the 20%

The worst place to eat, the woman at the cashier is super rude and has no tact when serving customers, the food takes a long time to prepare, 25 to 30 minutes even though the establishment has no people, terrible place as well as the experience.
