Usually I’m not too impressed with hotel restaurants, but this is an exception. While the prices are a bit high, the food was high-quality to match, the service was great, and we had an excellent view of the Willamette from our table. The entire rest of my table got the fish and chips, while I got the Cesar salad with chicken. Fish and chips was probably the move, everyone really enjoyed it. My Cesar was very good, and I liked the addition of the sliced anchovies in the salad, but it was just a little small for the price. There’s a good drink selection, and my friend said their Old Fashioned was one of the best he’s had. A good dinner for our first night in Portland for sure.

We had several meals here, as we were staying at the hotel. All the food was well flavored and nicely presented, but some of the portions were so small for the prices charged. The ricotta donuts with lemon curd are so delicious, and you can get them anytime they are open.

The service was excellent and the different staff members were so much fun to chat with! We were so fortunate that it wasn't too busy when we were there. We were amazed to learn about the creative talents of several servers. It would be so awesome if the hotel hosted a craft showcase for these creative souls to share their wares!

I ordered the Idaho steelhead and absolutely loved it. This is not salmon, and it was beautifully done. The skin was perfectly crispy while the fish itself was moist, tender, and cooked with great care — not an easy balance to achieve. The lemon gremolata and preserved tomato were fantastic accompaniments, adding brightness and depth without overpowering the fish. Every bite felt thoughtful and well-executed. Huge cheers to the chef 👏 — this dish alone would bring me back.

Take this lament to heart:

There was a time when this place boasted a happy hour worth watching the clock for. Two in the afternoon could not come soon enough, and the menu then gave honest pleasure. Something changed, though I cannot say exactly when. What I can say is that from that point on, the offerings declined, and quality and service followed them downward.

On my last visit, a telling moment sealed it. Someone quietly mentioned that a chef had departed and, with surprising foresight, offered an apology for what lay ahead. Rare honesty, perhaps, but a troubling sign all the same.

So here is my counsel, plainly given. Go and fetch that chef back. For whatever walked out the door with them has yet to return.

My daughter and I pick a place every Christmas for lunch. This year we choose the King Tide Fish & Shell. The service was slow. I get it's Christmas, but it was slow. We ordered some oysters to open, which were great. A while later we got our main food, cold and underwhelming. For the price, it was not worth it. Poor service, overpriced, and food was lackluster.

The stuff was really friendly and the menu is pretty good. Good beer wine and cocktail list.the food may not WOW you but this is a really nice place that won't disappoint

It took too long for the waiter to come take our order, and they forgot to bring our appetizer. There weren't as many things on the menu as on the online menu I looked at before we went there. The food was all right, but kind of expensive.

This is a small and lovely restaurant on the water. The food is delicious, but service can be a bit slow and a few menu items felt overpriced, including their soup, selection and their bread and butter. That said, everything was very well cooked and delicious. This is a nice place to go if you're not too worried about how much money you're spending and you want to have a nice meal out. I would encourage the owners to make the bread and butter in particular just a little bit more affordable – it felt very strange to be paying six dollars for what was essentially one large piece of bread.

My dinner arrived only warm, asked for it to be reheated and it came back still lukewarm. I had asked for a martini and my server brought me what he blithely described as Smirnoff. My wife ordered mussels, which were ok, but she had to ask for a bowl for the shells and a spoon for broth. It was Thanksgiving Day so I ordered the turkey dinner on special; which contained no white meat and small bits and pieces of tough, chewy dark meat - like they had run out of turkey and desperately plated my meal with whatever they could still find. For $127, before tip, one should have expected much more out of a restaurant serving a riverside hotel. The property should be embarrassed.

Excellent service! Food was wonderful. We were guests at the hotel so ate there several times. Also took family and friends there. Oh, great view too.

I surprised my husband by taking him for a meal for his 49th birthday; he liked the food, the location and the beautiful restaurant. The staff were great; very nice, approachable and served us great food. The fish and chips is what we both decided to order; the meal was tasty. We were not impressed with the menu item options; we wished there were more items, but we still plan to return. Keep it up guys, thank you for my husband's free dessert and thank you for your kindness. Many blessings during this holiday season to you all.

Had the mushroom appetizer and fish and chips. Waiter was pleasant, the hostess was rude- she stared at me with no prompt and had to ask to sit down. No hello, no how can I help you. The mushroom appetizer was recommended had a middle eastern flavor profile that did not go with seafood. Odd choice for a predominantly seafood restaurant, would of expected something more bright on the citrus side. Fish and Chips had an extremely strong fishy smell when it was initially brought out, but it dissipated by the time I got to it. First fish was great with no smell, second one had spots of raw batter because it was so thick in some areas and no smell, third was the culprit once I broke it open- there was an extremely strong fishy smell. The fish looked oddly translucent but cooked at the same time. I left pretty quickly and barely touched most of the food. Fries were mid.

Mussels in broth were huge and tender. Dish came with a half slice of bread. We requested additional bread, found out later there was a $6 charge for 1 slice of bread. King salmon was a good sized portion, delicious and perfectly prepared. The accompanying veges, noodles, and broth were underseasoned and unappealing. The smore chocolate mousse was a delicious decadent treat.

Overall meh. Yummy lobster roll, but $28 and no sides with that. Very average fish and chips and fried calamari. Not good service despite being the only customers there.

Klunky presentation of an otherwise lovely cold seafood app. Staff never asked how we liked the food. Cast iron gave an off flavor to a solid potato side. Hotel staff cold leaving a lackluster finish to a solid dining location. Valet service gets 5 stars!!!!!

12/17/19 Response to owner. Started off with wonderful valet service, walk through lobby was warm and welcoming. The waitstaff attended to us in a timely and courteous manner. We ordered your cold seafood tower which contained lovely products but were displayed in oversized, awkward, and cheap looking dishes. It blocked the view of my guest and we had to keep spinning it to reach the food. The oysters were some of the best I have had, but the server did not tell us what kind they were, where they were from, or tasting notes. Potatoes tasted like the cast iron they were cooked in. Dessert was great, but was overdressed unnecessarily. There wasn't interest from waitstaff as to how we liked the food and service dwindled from there. Table top was terribly sticky, which staff wiped upon arrival, but remained sticky throughout meal. Upon leaving none of the hotel staff said goodbye or gave us any eye contact. The saving grace was the valet service who checked all the boxes that the inside staff did not. Loved the atmosphere inside and wanted to love the evening completely, but there are just too many savvy options here in Portland for fabulous dining. Let me know if you need any additional clear feedback.
