Terrible Ma Po Tofu; there were maybe 5 peas in the dish, the tofu was rubbery and the sauce flavorless save for the red pepper flakes. The service was lackluster

Sweet sour chicken was over cooked and the batter it was dipped in was undercooked in some pieces.
Amazing vegan options which are hard to find in Chinese cuisine. The soy curls curry noodles, spicy eggplant n string beans were amazing. The servings are huge.
man, the eternal dilemma: pork belly brussel sprouts or mabo tofu (with ground pork)? two amazing dishes I can NEVER get enough of.
this place is pretty dead most of the time, except for take out and delivery; the front counter is straight up jumping but the wait staff have little to do. so fabulous place to go with a large party and no reservation (except prob timbers/thorns nights).
my only qualm with this restaurant is its practice of not including white rice with an entree that needs it. it's like 2 bucks (I think) added on, and the unconventional and the weirdness of this policy bugs me. I'd love to hear the owner's rationale.
that said, portion sizes are huge, the veggies and meats fresh and never overcooked, like they are at so many Chinese restaurants, and prices are relatively inexpensive. I love the look main at their nearby competitor, Ling Garden (though the freshness of the chicken, especially, seems to have become suspect) but the quality and prices here is generally better--this is more fusion, in a good way, than it's neighbor. and don't even get me started on the other nearby competitor, August Moon. other than paying more because of tacking on right, Kung POW beats them both.
I'm not much for sweet and sour but I've gone with people who have had dishes with their cherry sauce who think that's fantastic; also, Judy's Noodles get some significant love. But for me it's all Brussels/mabo, all the time.

Some of the best vegan noodles and soups. Very flavorful and the spicy is right. Big portions
Honestly shocked this place doesn’t have higher reviews! My partner and I live next door but didn’t think too much of Kung POW due to it never being busy inside + the somewhat average rating. But a friend recommended we try it and now we can’t stop going. We call in our takeout order and it’s done 10-15 minutes later each time. My partner says the honey dry fried beef is one of the best American Chinese dishes he’s ever had. And I can’t stop ordering the sesame tofu & broccoli. It’s big servings so always leaves us a serving or two of leftovers which makes the pricing incredibly good! I highly recommend this place.

First off, a proper/authentic east asian especially Chinese restaurant wouldn't serve white rice in a tiny small plate, it's always in a bowl, unless it's with other food or fried rice then it'll be in a big plate with depth. There are cultural and functional reasons behind. Mapo tofu was bland, wrong tofu type, wrong spice. The tofu portion was good. I saw good reviews on Google map and thought I could expect something authentic but left disappointed. I don't recommend it to those familiar with real Chinese cuisines. If you want something fusion and toned down, a spacious place with decent price then still an okay option I guess.

It’s nice to see a Chinese Restaurant that has not stooped to the Orange Chicken & Sweet and Sour all you can eat buffet quality. This place is great.
I only had the Kung Pow Chicken for lunch. Medium. And their medium is the real deal medium Hot. Vegetables were cooked correctly and still had texture and snap. Chicken was not breaded which was nice to see.
One of the better Chinese places in Portland.

Have been here a handful of times, never disappoints. the staff is always so friendly and kind. the wontons in chili oil and dried fried honey beef are my personal favorites. and it's usually very fast and convenient, even during tourist season.
Honey dried fried beef foods crazy
Nothing horrible...Nothing great...our guest took a bite of his pork dish and didn't have another...
The food is really good here. The people are very friendly. And they have a great selection of food.
Food is always great, and prices are reasonable. Love supporting a small business run by nice folks! Lots of vegan and gluten friendly options too.
