It is rare to find a business where the product is so high-quality and the staff so capable, yet the environment is so fundamentally compromised by its leadership. While this shop is marketed as a 'community-driven third space' and a 'safe space' for the arts, the reality is a culture of performative inclusivity.

In my experience, George Fochive , the owner, operates more as a gatekeeper than a community leader. There is a jarring disconnect between the soft-spoken persona he presents and a management style that is disorganized, unaccountable, and at times, openly hostile toward the very local culture he claims to serve. It is a profound irony to claim the mantle of a community advocate while fostering an exclusionary atmosphere that functions primarily as a stage for his own ego.

Ultimately, a genuine community cannot be built on a foundation of insecurity. A true 'third space' belongs to the people; this space feels like it belongs solely to the owner’s identity crisis. As a member of the Portland community, I would not suggest this shop to new residents or locals looking for a genuine connection. If you are seeking an inclusive environment where 'community' is more than a marketing tactic, you may find the gatekeeping here to be an insurmountable barrier.

Be a better man, George.

Stumbled into this place on a whim and immediately felt like I’d found one of those only-in-Portland treasures. The crepes are outrageously good — the perfect balance of light and crisp on the outside with that warm, comforting softness inside. You can tell everything is made with intention. The savory options hit like a full meal (the seasoning is dialed in perfectly), and the sweet crepes are the kind that make you rethink every dessert you’ve ever had.

But what really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. The rotating art display along the walls is unbelievably cool — it feels like you’re eating inside someone’s creative brain. Every corner has something worth staring at, and it gives the whole spot this vibrant, expressive energy without feeling chaotic. It’s the kind of space where you want to linger, talk, and just take it all in.

Service was warm, fast, and genuinely friendly. You can tell the staff actually enjoy being there, which adds a ton to the vibe.

Bottom line: if you’re in Portland and want a meal that feels both comforting and creative, this place is a must. The crepes are phenomenal, the art display is unlike anything else in the city, and the whole experience is one you walk away from smiling. I’ll be back every time I’m in town.

Stopped in on my daughter’s sweet 16 and had the best experience! The drinks were amazing, the food was delicious, and they even surprised her with a special birthday crepe. The whole place is such a cute, unique café with so many fun details to look at. Highly recommend!

My new favorite venue, gallery, cafe, work space, creative hub, and more in this city! From day time service as a cafe and creperie, to diverse evening events catered to people of all backgrounds and ages this place never misses. The staff energy, art gallery, and community are the perfect mix for a creative looking for a third place. I’ve been able to work in cozy spaces of solitude here but also network with individuals I would’ve otherwise never met in a shy city. Very grateful this place exists and it makes dreary winters here seem a little easier to get through. That’s my personal experience, and I hope you find your own reason. It won’t be hard to find.. cheers

L'Atelier Yaffe is literally a sanctuary for people deeply involved in nonprofit work and community organizing, I’ve come to appreciate spaces that feel intentional, safe, and grounded in culture. L’Atelier has offered that consistently, not just for our NSBE Pro-PDX meetings, but also as a cozy, welcoming spot for personal work and I genuinely love it.

The vibe is always chill, the crepes are bomb (every single time), and the rotating art always by Black artists, tells powerful, moving stories that spark conversation and reflection. You can feel that this place was created with purpose.

Whether you're looking for a place to focus, build, connect, or just breathe, L'Atelier Yaffe delivers. Portland needs more spaces like this.

I bought lunch for our 20 person office today. I asked them the day before if they could handle a party of 20 and they absolutely pulled it together! We tried all of their sandwiches, Turkey Sandwich, Prosciutto Sandwich, one called Mediterranean (Vegetarian), Smoked Salmon Sandwich, and Whipped Tuna! All of them were Huge, fresh, and AMAZING! The turkey had pesto and was so delicious, The Mediterranean had hummus and feta with tons of Veg! All of them are winners. Highly recommend for lunch!!! And I got myself a Coconut water (instead of milk) Matcha and it was FIRE!!! They also have a Palo Santo Cold Cream that is to die for and makes for an interesting flavor punch to a coffee or Matcha! I am so happy to have this little Gem in my sights! Please try!
