I wanted to try a new place for date night and picked a good one. The food was excellent, the service was warm. I made a reservation for the purple room which has about 4 small tables. There is another room that has more tables and a bar. The restaurant is on the second floor of a converted house. I don't think they have an elevator, so you're aware. We got mostly what the waiter recommended. The chicken liver mousse tart was savory and delicate, crust being flaky and good contrast to the vinaigretted frissee. The grilled cauliflower still had crunch and umami. I picked the duck confit which had delicious crispy crust and a slight sweet, salty sauce. My husband had the pork coppa which is a braised pork shoulder over a sauce with delicious huge beans. I thought all the food was outstanding, the presentation was great and flavors well balanced. Ended the night with an almond flour orange cake, not too sweet. I might have skipped that one because the gelee was a little tart and cake a denser than expected. The waiter was great at helping us navigate the menu. I liked all the choices available and can't wait to try more of them. I don't think there is a wrong choice here. Their menu options rotate.

My partner and I made reservations for the tasting menu experience here - it was our first time in, but will definitely not be our last! Delicious food from the welcome snacks to dessert, friendly and prompt service (great interactions with the servers and the chef!), cute and cozy atmosphere. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back!

Genuinely delightful. You can always tell a restaurant is truly different when the servers seem genuinely happy to be working there. Our server Erica was a wonderful person to speak with and brought a joyful disposition that I've never really experienced at a restaurant. Thank you Erica for making it a spectacular night for my partner's birthday! The food was a treat. It had been a long time since I'd scraped my plate clean for the last bits but here it was almost second nature. The recommended wine was the 'Es Okay' for what we ordered, and paired wonderfully. Independently, the wine was genuinely one of the best I'd had, so much so I bought myself a bottle online immediately after we left for a future celebration. And the place. In a beautiful location, orange wallpaper, servers used orange pens, orange glasses for water, and the space was painted a beautiful dark blue with white trim to match. It was a feast for the eyes. Genuinely, truthfully, one of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant. I hate writing about how much I love it because I fear L'Orange becoming hard to reserve or too expensive, but for Erica and all the wonderful staff who made our night amazing, you deserve it. Beautiful!

Limited wine list, excellent eats. My wife enjoyed the caviar! The duck confit was delicious

My wife and I added L'Orange to our list after the article on the Oregonian. Saturday night, we figured it's busy so we tried for a walk-in right when they opened at 5 PM. No problem! It was just the ambience we were looking for. Relaxed and pretty. We had bench seating in the room to the right. Honestly, that is the only way my wife lets us sit side-by-side at a restaurant. :-) Scoured the menu. What to have... What to have... Waiter (bartender?) gives us the rundown. Small plates, medium, etc. Their take on French soup? A gobbler. Caviar with the leeks? But, of course! Oooh! This wine IS orange! Delightful! We could've gotten all the dishes to share. But we've been married for over 20 years and didn't find that to be absolutely necessary. Kim ordered the sturgeon and I ordered the duck confit. The sturgeon was fantastic and was served on a bed of ....lentils (?) and other stuff that created really good mouth feel. The duck was boneless, which saved me a bunch of time since taking the meat off the bone is sooooo exhausting. I liked the wine choices. And each of our dishes was so flavorful. if the dishes were a little on the rich side, that just meant, I probably could've shared the duck. But then... You could tell the restaurant was super modern, because none of the desserts look like they would be very good. So we left.

Truly the best restaurant in Portland right now. It rivals restaurants in France. The food is delightful, the staff is knowledgeable and kind, and the space is warm and homey. We plan to become regulars — if we can get reservations!Thank you for making fine dining accessible.

I was extremely disappointed with my dining experience. The gnocchi was poorly cooked, mushy, and lacked any semblance of flavor. It's disheartening when a supposedly simple dish like gnocchi is executed so poorly. I won't be returning.

This was such a wonderful dining experience. Each dish had varying flavor profiles and delicious at that. I love the cozy and intimate atmosphere of the place, it felt like a fine dining experience in someone's home. The service was attentive and each dish was presented and explained to us with care. I haven't had a meal like this in a while, so I was eager to try many dishes. From their menu (which rotate seasonally), we tried the Leeks, Fall Salad, Cauliflower, Duck, and Boneless Short Rib. The stand outs for me were the Leeks, Duck, and Boneless Short Rib. The crab mousse in the leeks were so smooth and flavorful and paired so well with the soft poached leeks. The short ribs were perfectly tender and had such a rich flavor of beef that was complimented by the braised wine. I surprisingly loved the combination of the chickpea fritter and harissa together with the beef. Highly recommend!

Surprising and absolutely delicious. We often love the starters at a restaurant and the mains are uninspired. Not true here. Every course winning. Staff was fantastic.

Ok food and atmosphere. Too expensive and they were out of some items. Not a great value when price taken into consideration. Nice old home. Stairs may be a problem for those who are not athletic.

What an absolutely delightful experience!I was so bummed when the previous restaurant at this location (Willow) closed. It was one of my favorites of all time and a big part of that was the atmosphere that this quaint little space afforded it.So when I heard about L'Orange, I knew I had to give it a try.Having them in the space takes away my longing for Willow. It's not particularly similar, but it just feeds the same craving that I have sometimes for really honest but expertly crafted food paired with interesting wines and served in a friendly quaint and warm environment. L'Orange knocked it out of the park!I'm a little ashamed to admit that I can't remember exactly what we ate because I was just a little too busy drinking in the emotion of the experience. But I can tell you that the food was very good and flawlessly prepared. One of my biggest annoyances about trendy dining in Portland right now is that almost all the wine lists are going full-on "natural wine." I'm not a big fan of the genre. Not because I don't like things natural but because a lot of times natural wine is just code for "tastes like kombucha." This restaurant definitely fits the mold for the type of restaurant that is opting for these types of wines but I'm happy to report that such was NOT the case.Every wine we had was clean, crafted with precision, and free of overt flaws such as VA, mercaptans or Brettanomyces. Such a refreshing break from current trends! You really feel like family here - or at least a good friend. I give a standing ovation to the whole staff crew here as well as those responsible for the conceptualization and execution of this establishment! It has immediately become one of my new favorites in town and I'll be recommending it widely and visiting often.
