Small place, need to order first then find seating. The drinks are tasty. Only comment that is really small, the burgers are really good but the cheese needs to be placed on the burgers earlier, that way they melt on the patty. Ours and others around us looked to be placed on the patty just before sent to the table.

Longest wait we have had for food in a Portland restaurant living here for 25 years dining out weekly. It is not likely that this place will be in business for long. The food was average for Portland.

The tacos are delicious and I wasn’t even that hungry. I really think this place is under rated.

I'm from Houston, this is the second best / authentic Mexican food I've had in Oregon; right behind a place in Salem they is half a quinceanera dress shop

La Taq is where the party's at! The tacos are next-level, and Judah, the bartender, makes the best cocktails and is super friendly. The vibe is laid back and fun, perfect for hanging out with friends or a solo meal. For great food and a fun time, La Taq can't be beat!

Pork tacos, rice with beans, and ahi tuna ceviche. The pork was like it was cooked in a crock pot. The flavor was ok, but I was hoping for more. The corn tortillas were very greasy. For 14 dollars, the serving of ceviche felt stingy. The tortilla chips were thick and crunchy but a little burnt. Ceviche lemon was overwhelming and was the worst ceviche I've had. Almost no jalapeños, maybe one or two chunks. Almost no veggies, few tomatoes and no onions. Garnished with avocado. Rice and beans were the best part of the meal. One person behind the counter and I believe their boyfriend was visiting because she was spending time attending to his service and sitting with him. Will not be going back.

My Texan husband and I were out looking for true Tex Mex. We heard this place was as close as we were going to get (in Portland anyway). The service was very quick and friendly. We ordered the chips with queso, guacamole and salsa. This was amazing! Definitely Tex Mex! The house margaritas are delicious! Just the right amount of all ingredients! We ordered the brisket puffy taco. It was rich and very filling. The meat was tender and flavorful. We also ordered the ‘Gringo’ taco which was definitely Tex Mex, too. Especially when you dip it in the queso! Kudos to La Taq- your food is Tex Mex and delicious!

Enjoyed a delicious array of meat / fish / vegetarian options for our varied group sat in the outdoor seating. FYI minors are allowed until 9PM but cannot sit at the bar. Loved the queso and took advantage of happy hour.
Kid-friendliness: Kids can enjoy being right next to the Nico's Ice Cream shop and perhaps parents can use that incentive for good behavior. :-)

La Taq was hyped up for me so maybe that's why my review is bit less than 5 stars. The tacos were incredible, don't get me wrong. Truly great food. The drinks were a bit meh. I think I could make a better cocktail at home (theirs seemed a bit watery and small maybe?). Service was a bit cold and slow for an order at the counter kind of place, but I wondered if maybe they were short staffed? The space is SUPER small, very limited seating and honestly felt a bit crowded/too close quarters for my preference.

This place is awesome. I love the food, innovative drinks, and the staff are incredible. I would come here every Wednesday (hint, hint) when every other restaurant in Portland is closed if you were open!!!I feel like I have to rate it three stars though because the hours suck. How can you pay rent for 168 hours of the week and then only be open for 20 of those hours!!!!!! It doesn't pencil! And it makes it hard for me to make it there. Also, please don't just be a Portland sucker and close at 10. Stay open til 11! I can barely get to the bar by 9, which makes 10 impossible.Last thing....you have seating. Change your license and allow kids. You're not open bar hours, you're open restaurant hours. I'd be here a lot feeding my kids queso and drinking margaritas.
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian nachos are amazing.

Sheesh, I’m so bummed. La Taq has been one of our favorite spots in PDX since they opened, and we’ve tried most if not all of the best taquerias in town. I can’t remember the last time I wrote a review, probably because I don’t think the PDX service industry in general really cares anymore, but here goes in hopes La Taq cares and wants to stay in business:Apps:- Chips typically were the best in town, house made, warm, light & crispy, the right amount of grease, a reason to show up all on their own. Tonight they were cold, overcooked, under salted.- Guac, avocado base tasted good and fresh but otherwise bland, needed salt and some heat from peppers/jalepeño/serrano, plus cilantro.- Queso was good but not warm- Salsa was tasty and good layers of spiceEntrees/tacos:- the brisket taco is usually my fave and one of the best in town. Tonight it was different, fat not rendered like the brisket didn’t spend enough time in the smoker - but somehow dried out and not moist either. In addition there was dry spice garnish that I didn’t recognize but was very bitter.- Poblano taco was overcooked, no texture/snap left in the poblanos- Al pastor was tragic, like stew, so soupy it broke through the tortilla. It definitely isn’t cooked on a trampo to give it those crispy edges, it’s likely braised but not for long enough.Drinks:- Margs were good not great. The salt was caked on so thick around the rim that another bartending grabbed the glasses from our bartender and tapped to reduce the salt rim by at least half. I thought these used to be fresh squeezed, but maybe mistaken. Everything was pre-mixed this time and a little too sweet, not enough citrus.
